The Portable Sunset (ユウヒノミ?, lit.: "Fruit of Sunset") is a fruit in Pikmin 3 and a treasure in Pikmin 4. At first glance, it appears to be a Love Nugget (which is a tomato), but it is actually a Japanese persimmon fruit. It produces 2 bottles of juice (one in Ultra-Spicy mode), and is found in two places in either game's Story Mode.

Distant Tundra[edit]

The Portable Sunset in the Distant Tundra requires Blue Pikmin to obtain. It is hanging from a branch above a small pond near a Bearded Amprat and a Bouncy Mushroom. By throwing 8 Pikmin onto the fruit, it will fall into the water, and from there, Blue Pikmin can retrieve it. It is advised to bring some Yellow Pikmin to take care of the few Amprats along the way. It is also possible to push the fruit completely out of the water using two Blue Pikmin carrying the body of a nearby Skeeterskate if not enough are available.

Twilight River[edit]

The Portable Sunset in the Twilight River is found right beyond a bamboo gate on the second half of the area. This fruit is guarded by three Orange Bulborbs. If you do not have enough Winged Pikmin, you will have to go head to head with the Orange Bulborbs. Alternatively, simply throw 8 Winged Pikmin over to the fruit. However, they will not go over the gate, instead going right past the Orange Bulborbs and waking them up, although they will go back to sleep immediately.

Collecting the treasure[edit]

Primordial Thicket[edit]

There is a Portable Sunset hanging from a cobweb northwest of the center of the Primordial Thicket. To collect this treasure, you must first construct the clay bridge nearby, which requires 75 raw material to build. Then, throw 10 Pikmin at it.

The Mud Pit[edit]

There is a Portable Sunset inside of a Bogswallow in the southwestern part of sublevel 2 of The Mud Pit. To collect this treasure, you must first defeat the Bogswallow, then throw 10 Pikmin at it.

Notes

Brittany's notes

Look at the colors! It reminds me of the time I melted all my crayons and tried to combine them together into a supercrayon. I really thought that would work... Anyway, Alph doesn't like the smell of this fruit, but he doesn't have a sophisticated nose palate like I do.

This radiant specimen should remind me of childhood on Koppai, when we'd watch the sunset while enjoying a big dinner. But instead it makes me think of the onset of night on this planet, and the monstrosities that brings. I've covered it up so we can sleep in peace.

Schnauz's notes[edit]

This fruit gets its color by soaking up the rays of each sunset. And though it's quite bitter during its youth, it grows increasingly sweet with age until it's close to perfect as it falls off the branch. Let this remind us all to look forward to our sunset years!

Olimar's notes[edit]

This fruit reminds me of a particular sunset I witnessed years ago. My son and I were walking home together one evening, and the sun was setting right across our path. I remember it like it was yesterday... It wasn't spectacular in the least, but I'll never forget it.

Louie's notes[edit]

It takes forever to ripen and only a few seconds to eat. One of life's great tragedies.
