Ice is a hazard in Pikmin 4. It is non-fatal, and cannot outright harm Pikmin, but it can freeze them solid, leaving them vulnerable to other hazards or being eaten. Ice Pikmin and Glow Pikmin are completely immune to ice, however. Ice also affects the player character and Oatchi if they do not have the Thermal Device equipped. Note that even if frozen, the Maturity of a Pikmin will not decrease unlike other hazards.

Ice is emitted by a few sources.

•  Blizzarding Blowhog – enemies capable of spitting icy mist.
•  Chillyhop – enemies who can create freezing pools when they land.
•  Dwarf Frosty Bulborb – grub-dogs that are perpetually cold.
•  Frosty Bulborb – grub-dogs that are perpetually cold.
•  Iceblown Dweevil – dweevils capable of blowing out an icy mist.
•  Icy Blowhog – enemies capable of blowing out an icy mist.
•  Snowy Blowhog – enemies capable of spitting icy mist.
•  Ancient Sirehound – uses ice in its second phase.

One of the notable traits of Ice Pikmin is their immunity to ice.

Thermal Defense

The Thermal Defense is a piece of gear that both the player character and Oatchi can equip. It makes the wearer completely immune to ice hazards.

Against enemies

The following article or section is in need of assistance from someone who plays Pikmin 4. Particularly: Check if Oatchi can be frozen by the Dandori Battle opponent's Ice Pikmin, and if he can ignore it with the Thermal Device.

While not directly the ice hazard players face in-game, Ice Pikmin have the ability to freeze enemies, encasing them in ice similarly to how other Pikmin types can be frozen. If a frozen enemy is vanquished before it can thaw out, it will shatter, usually dropping Nectar, and sometimes also its Ultra-Spicy variety. However, the creature's corpse will be unobtainable.
