Burning Bog (まっかに もえる どくぬま?, lit.: "Bright red burning poison swamp") is the secret area in the Lushlife Murk. Most of the action takes place on top of tin boxes as they cross the rivers of poison. Fireflinger Groinks return in this area, and provide a constant threat to Captain Olimar and his group of Pikmin, considering that there is not much room to escape from the fireballs with whilst on top of the tin boxes. On top of that, some of the parts that are explored on foot have geysers of poison shoot out blasts into the air at certain intervals.

Description

This area is easily one of the hardest of the entire game: the player must progress above a river of poison for the majority of the area, while being careful with the many enemies they encounter. Especially, the player must watch out for the Fireflinger Groinks which, because of the fireballs they shoot, add to the overall difficulty of the area. Moreover, the player will encounter some poison geysers. There are three treasures in this area: the Tangerine Paste, dropped by a Puffstalk, the Ever-Night Windows, accessible through a corridor, and the Training Rocket. This treasure is hard to get, because it requires the player to get a bomb rock, and then to travel through the last half of the area while avoiding the fireballs of the many Fireflinger Groinks. Then, the player can use the bomb rock to destroy a cobblestone block right before the end of the area, in order to get the treasure.

Cutscenes

Cutscene Screenshot Trigger Description
Poison geyser The poison geyser cutscene in Burning Bog. The player moves a bit forward after the Crested Mockiwi. Two Red Pikmin notice something up ahead. They walk up to a stick serving as a bridge, and look down into the chasm, curious about the vapor down below. Suddenly, a burst of poison blasts into the air. As soon as it ends, the Pikmin run back to Olimar's side in fear.
Balancing Pikmin The balancing Pikmin cutscene in Burning Bog. The player climbs up the vine that's directly above a geyser of poison gas, after a Crested Mockiwi, and advances forward a bit. Two Red Pikmin are balancing on top of a Sparklium Seed each, and two other Red Pikmin are nearby, cheering them on. Eventually, the ones cheering notice Olimar and walk a bit in his direction, then stop. Right after, the two performers notice Olimar as well, get off the seeds, and grab on to them.
