This year we're finally getting Pikmin 4! I figured it's time we updated our very outdated staff list, and the best time to do so would be at the start of the new year. This means adding more staff members (so we can have enough manpower when Pikmin 4 releases), but it also means removing and updating currently-inactive staff members.

One important point is that the policies, guidelines, and general flow of the wiki have been updated a lot since the last time some of the staff members have been active. Some members have not edited the wiki in over five years, and some have even been absent from the fanbase for a while altogether. Keeping these users in a staff position is not really fair for the staff who are active. Further, it's problematic for our users, who may go to a staff member for help, only to find themselves being ignored because those accounts are no longer active. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, having abandoned accounts with such permissions opens a major security risk should something happen to compromise those accounts.

So, in order to update the staff team, I would like to start with demotions. The idea is to demote any staff members that will not be active from here on, meaning users who have abandoned their staff duties, as well as users who are more active but have no plans of continuing in a staff position.

Barring the currently active ones (Porple and Soprano), I'd like to talk to the staff members to know what their plans are going forward. If they want to step down, that's fine, and if not, we can start tuning everyone's skills and roles to better fit their goals. A handful of these users can no longer be contacted, but considering they haven't edited the wiki in over a decade for some cases, it's very safe to say they don't care any more. Some others are still around though – some of them on Pikcord, some of them in a friends Discord server.

In the interest of not getting hung up waiting for everyone to say their peace, I'll proactively reach out to the users that I can, and will set a deadline of a week, at which point I'll gather everyone's thoughts (maybe in private?), and work out a list of who would step down. Then after some days, if there are no objections, I'll make those changes official. When that's over, we can begin hiring some new staff members and updating the current ones.

Please let me know your thoughts, everyone. Whether you're a staff member that wants to share their plans for the future, or you're a regular user commenting on this approach. — {EspyoT} 06:28, January 19, 2023 (EST)

I do still have an eye on my account, but I'm fine with having my powers removed. My activity is too sporadic to warrant them and P4 won't change that much; whatever I do then I can do as a standard user.--Prezintenden (talk) 07:59, January 19, 2023 (EST)
