For Spectralids in Pikmin 2, see Unmarked Spectralids.

Red Spectralids (アカシジミ?, lit.: "Red Lycaenid") are small butterfly-like creatures in Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 4, acting as newer versions of the Unmarked Spectralids from Pikmin 2. They have red wings, very fuzzy bodies, green eyes and two small feet they use to stand on things like flowers and Pellet Posies. They function very much like red Unmarked Spectralids from Pikmin 2 in that they produce a drop of ultra-spicy spray when killed. Compared to other flutterbies in Pikmin 3, they have red wings with black dots, a black "outline" around the redness, and a white one around that one.

In Pikmin 3's Story Mode, they are only found in the Garden of Hope on top of the Quaggled Mireclops corpse any day after its battle, making them easy to overlook.

BehaviorEdit

Red Spectralids may be seen on the ground, near flowers, or on the back of a sleeping Bulborb, but in all cases, when a leader or Pikmin approaches them, they will fly away. They will flutter around aimlessly in the air, and while doing so they are difficult to reach. After some seconds, it will once again land.

LocationsEdit

There is only 1 Red Spectralids in Story Mode, in the Garden of Hope. It can be found in the Quaggled Mireclops arena at least 1 day after the boss is defeated. In Mission Mode, 2 are found in the Battle Enemies version of Tropical Forest, with 1 being in an open space with a Swooping Snitchbug and the other being in the leafy area with the Orange Bulborbs, and 3 are found in the Battle Enemies version of Shaded Garden, with 1 being on top of a small plateau southwest of the Blue Onion, 1 being at the top of the ramp in the southeast part of the area, and 1 being just northwest of the Red Onion.

StrategyEdit

The following article or section contains guides.
The strategies shown are just suggestions.

A direct hit from any type of Pikmin will instantly defeat a Red Spectralids. Winged Pikmin are, however, most effective, as they will give chase if the enemy tries to fly off.

Structural flaw: weak hide
Weight: 1

There must be a reason for the color variation between the various models of this creature, but I haven't yet figured out what it is. This one is probably my favorite, though. You can't go wrong with red!

One of these red beauties flew real close to me once when I was standing still. I took that to mean I smell as sweet as a flower. It's funny how the Ultra-Spicy Nectar it carries doesn't seem to make it any more excitable than the rest of its kind. Maybe it's just better at keeping it together.

Charlie's comments

Though red is a universally recognized symbol of danger, these creatures couldn't hurt a fly. A shame, too, because there are plenty of monster flies on this planet that could use some hurting.

Spread larvae on a slice of toast for a toothsome and protein-packed breakfast. Or fry up the wings at any time of day for a crunchy snack!

Flutterbie family

Its red wings have several spots, unlike the lone spot on each wing of the yellow variety. Its scales contain trace amounts of ultra-spicy flakes, which are mixed into its saliva as it sucks up the nectar from flowers. The combined flakes, saliva, and nectar are refined into Ultra-Spicy Nectar inside the creature, which it uses as a growth supplement for its eggs. Despite this, its reproductive capabilities are quite low. It is for this reason that the red variant fetches astronomical prices among collectors.

Dalmo's NotesEdit

Spectralid wings have a lot of fine powder on them. By building up in many different layers, it gives them a sparkle with complexity and depht. This little fellow's powder also has some ultra-spicy essence in it for a zestier effect!

Pikmin 3 Prima GuideEdit

The Red Spectralids is another harmless flying creature. When you defeat this enemy, it drops a bit of Ultra-Spicy Nectar. If you choose to attack a Red Spectralids, use your Winged Pikmin to quickly defeat the enemy.
