The Secret Safe (へそくり金庫?, lit.: "Stashy Safe") is a ship part of the S.S. Dolphin found in Pikmin and Pikmin 4. In Pikmin, it is the last ship part that can be retrieved. It is found inside the massive Emperor Bulblax of The Final Trial, and while it is optional, its collection ensures the best ending. It's a large safe shaped like a piggy bank. This is where Captain Olimar keeps all of his money, or Pokos. When he found it, he claimed that none of his Pokos were lost. After being recovered, the Secret Safe does not change the S.S. Dolphin's appearance, but it does complete the ship and cause the ship's conclusion cutscene to play regardless.

In Pikmin 4, the part appears in Olimar's Shipwreck Tale. It has found its way into the stomach of a Sovereign Bulblax in the Serene Shores.

Collecting the part

Start building the bridge using 80 Blue Pikmin and then throw 10 Yellow Pikmin from island to island on the right side of the map. Once they have bomb-rocks, throw them back the same way. If you are playing the GameCube version, be sure not to whistle them or they will drop their bombs; you need to touch them. This was altered in the New Play Control! release for the Wii. Take the bomb-rocks across the newly-created bridge and use them to destroy the brick wall. Set aside any Pikmin still holding bomb-rocks and use both the Yellow and Blue Pikmin to start building the second stick bridge.

Take out 10 Red Pikmin and throw them onto the fire geyser ledge to the left. Then move into the water on the right side of the ledge, whistle them, and lead them down to where the box is blocking the path. Use them to push the box while the Blue and Yellow Pikmin continue to build the bridge. Once the box is moved and the bridge is built, take down the white wall (preferably with a single bomb-rock).

The Secret Safe is held by the final boss of the game, the Emperor Bulblax, a massive and long lived grub-dog.

In Pikmin 4

See also: Sovereign Bulblax strategy.

In Pikmin 4, it is held by a Sovereign Bulblax, a creature directly inspired by the Emperor Bulblax from Pikmin. It is found at "The Sand Keep", which is the top of the sand castle in Serene Shores and the same arena where a Crusted Rumpup is fought in the main game.

Similar strategies apply, though bomb rocks (or similar items) must now be used by Olimar or Moss instead of Yellow Pikmin if the player wants to stun the beast.

Notes

Olimar's monologs

At long last... I've found the final part...my Secret Safe! And it's as full as ever! How glad I am that I've persisted in my search without losing hope... Now I can leave this planet without any regrets. Maybe I'll even stop and pick up some souvenirs for my wife and kids back on Planet Hocotate!

At last I have found it-my most prized possession! I am so relieved... It's as heavy as ever!

Trivia

In the Japanese version of Pikmin, the Secret Safe requires 85 Pikmin to carry. This is a picture of that.
The Secret Safe in the Japanese version, carried by 95 Pikmin.
  • In Pikmin 2, Olimar may get an e-mail from his wife saying that she has found his secret stash, and is taking their children on vacation. In addition, he mentions bringing souvenirs when finding the part, which is precisely what kickstarts the President's treasure hunt.
  • In the American and European versions, this is the second heaviest part in the game (tied with the Anti-Dioxin Filter), but has the largest number of possible carriers, 95. In the Japanese version, it is the heaviest ship part in the game, requiring 85 Pikmin.
  • In Pikmin 4, the Secret Safe has a weight of 50 and a max carrier count of 100, making it the heaviest part in Olimar's Shipwreck Tale. The place of second heaviest is tied between the Bowsprit and Chronos Reactor, both with a weight of 30 and 60 max carriers. This parallels the Japanese edition of Pikmin 1, where it's the heaviest part by a significant portion (85 for the Safe and 50 for the Gluon Drive).
