なんとも奇妙な形状の金属器だ。途中で折れていて全体像がわからない。ドルフィン初号機は、神器の一種だと主張しているが、私は洗面器だと思う。底に顔が映ってとても便利ではないか。 It downright metal instrument of strange shape. I do not know the whole picture have broken in the middle. Dolphin 01 machine, but has claimed that it is a kind of sacred treasures, I think the basin. Is not it very convenient reflected the face on the bottom. Pikifan4 (talk) 12:40, 2 February 2016 (EST)

These tranlations are super weird I don't know what they mean or are even right but this is Olimar's notes. Pikifan4 (talk) 13:56, 2 February 2016 (EST)

Translation IdeaEdit

My translation is here, please find grammatical mistakes and "Olimarize" or "Shipnize" them. -PortableSunset (talk) 08:41, March 13, 2021 (EST)

  • Olimar

"What a strange shaped metalware it is! It is broken in the middle, and I can't assume its whole picture. Ship says that this is the divine tool, but I think this is a basin. Don't you think it's useful, cause your face appears on the bottom (when you wash your face)?"

  • Ship

"Behold this godly shine! This is the super existence, ruling over the every living beings' tongues, and supervising every kind of food. ............ But we machine can't accept the favor, cause we don't have mouths."

  • My Personal Comment

In italic part, Ship is speaking like synthesized machine voice.

What about this:
Olimar: "What a strangely shaped piece of metal this is! It's broken in the middle, and I can't work its whole picture. The ship says this is a divine tool, but I think it's a basin. Isn't it convenient that your face reflects from the bottom?"
Ship: Behold this godly shape! This is a super-existence, ruling over every living being's tongue and controlling every kind of food. ............ But we machines cannot experience the flavor, as we have no mouths."
Soprano(talk) 04:26, March 15, 2021 (EDT)
Hmm, if you can, I want you or others to make the ship's last sentence (But we machines〜) crazier, cause original Japanese sentence is not grammatically, but visually too crazy and has lots of mechanical essence. -PortableSunset (talk) 06:58, March 15, 2021 (EDT)
How about like this:
"〜.... bUt wE MaCHinES caNnoT eXPerIEncE THe flAvoR, AS we HaVe NO mouTHS."
Is this acceptable as broken English? -PortableSunset (talk) 07:07, March 15, 2021 (EDT)
All caps, maybe? THIS LOOKS ROBOTIC TO ME. 2 B (talk) 12:50, March 15, 2021 (EDT)
Is this expression distinguishable from JUST SCREAMING? If so, I think your idea is better. -PortableSunset (talk) 21:53, March 15, 2021 (EDT)
I don't think the ship is necessarily saying "shape", since PortableSunset is saying the ship says "shine". Anyway, for a robotic voice, we can do Behold this godly shine! This is a super-existence, ruling over every living being's tongue and controlling every kind of food. ............ But we machines cannot experience the flavor, as we have no mouths.. It's really niche, but it gets the message across. — {EspyoT} 19:29, March 19, 2021 (EDT)
I just realized those edited notes changed "favor" into "flavor". I'm guessing that's a mistake. 2 B (talk) 09:01, March 26, 2021 (EDT)
"flavor" is correct. -PortableSunset (talk) 11:54, March 26, 2021 (EDT)
Sorry for necromancing, but after talking with my Japanese teacher / acquaintance, I'm starting to think that the name and description(s) of the Broken Cooking God, are essentially the same as Broken Food Master, only that any references to God and divinity are replaced with references to heaven and sacred(ness). (Also Olimar's journal regarding the broken food master is exactly the same, minus 底に顔が映ってとても便利ではないか。 "Isn't it very convenient to see your face on the bottom of this sink?") What do you think about it? - White_Eye_Pikmin (talk) 06:22 PM, 24 January, 2022 (CST) (grammatical edits on 12 March)
As for the descriptions, that sounds right, but what about the name? Can 折れた食神 really be translated to "Broken Food Master"? — {EspyoT} 14:14, March 7, 2022 (EST)
Then "Broken Cookery God" might be my second suggestion for translating the name. - White_Eye_Pikmin (talk) 01:30 PM, 12 March, 2022 (CST)
Hm, is there any difference between "Cooking" and "Cookery"? — {EspyoT} 11:15, March 20, 2022 (EDT)
"cookery is the art and practice of preparing food for consumption; cooking while cooking is the process of preparing food by using heat." So... maybe? I'd still suggest either "Broken Cookery God" or "Broken Cooking God" (which the latter is the article's current name). (talk) 12:50 PM, 13 April, 2022 (CST)

MergeEdit

Since the name and design of this treasure is so similar to the Broken Food Master, shouldn't this treasure be considered an alternate version of that one? There are other cases of the same treasure having slightly different designs between regions, such as the Abstract Masterpiece. — Soprano(talk) 02:34, March 26, 2022 (EDT)

Would this also apply to the Lightning Bolt and Impediment Scourge? 2 B (talk) 10:44, March 26, 2022 (EDT)
I guess it would. — Soprano(talk) 16:49, March 26, 2022 (EDT)
The problem is that the Divine Cooking Tool (EU and JP) is already an alternate version of the Broken Food Master (US). In fact, they are the very same object, whereas the Broken Cooking God is a unique object in the series. — {EspyoT} 10:39, April 9, 2022 (EDT)
I disagree, in fact, I think the Divine Cooking Tool should be merged with the Broken Food Master instead. The Broken Cooking God has a different model and name, meanwhile the Divine Cooking Tool, while found in a slightly different location, is basically a renamed Broken Food Master. Also, while merging the Divine Cooking Tool would be easy, the Broken Cooking God would be a lot more difficult due to having different model, icon and values. — GGabryy(talk) 14:08, March 7, 2024 (CET)
I disagree with that argument. After all, the US version of the Endless Repository has the same "model, icon and values" as the Perfect Container, but that doesn't mean the US info on the former should be moved to the latter's article, does it? 2 B (talk) 16:43, March 8, 2024 (EST)
I think that the Endless Repository and Perfect Container should be different pages, but that's more due to the fact that Endless Repository is used to refer to two different treasures, so if you were to merge the information about the US version in the Perfect Container, the page would still exist and so it makes more sense for that info to be there. Even if you don't want to merge Broken Food Master and Divine Cooking Tool, I still don't think the Broken Cooking God should be merged. Aside from its location, it has a different name, model and notes from the Broken Food Master. — GGabryy(talk) 23:08, March 8, 2024 (CET)
Different name and notes? Not really. The so-called Broken Cooking God only appears in the original Japanese version, where it has the exact same notes that the Broken Food Master has in the Japanese version of the Switch port. The former has no English notes to compare, so the only name/notes we have are the same. 2 B (talk) 17:44, March 8, 2024 (EST)
PopitTart made a good diagram in the Discord to explain the situation, which I'll now try to recreate here in a table:

折れた食神
(Broken Cooking God) (JP)

Broken Food Master (NA)

自炊の神器
(Divine Self-Catering Tool) (JP)

I think the most logical way to resolve this complex situation would be to split the table vertically, prioritizing the similarity in name and notes over the similarity in appearance. — Soprano(talk) 19:07, March 8, 2024 (EST)
Makes sense. By the way, the following US-or-UK treasures have the same Japanese name in the Switch port as the following Japanese treasures and I think should definitely be merged (I added merge templates to them a while back):
While the following have very names and notes that are remarkably similar, but not identical:
What do you think should be done with these last ones? Keep them split like with the the Munge/Venom Dweevil situation?
