Talk:Spotty Bulbear

From Pikipedia, the Pikmin wiki

Do anybody notice Spotty Bulbear are similiar to adult Bulbmin. They both don't sleep (Pikmin 2), they both are hard to avoid (especially Bulbear because he can walk over cliffs), and most of all they have juveniles following them.

I fully agree, and if I may add that they both munch Pikmin away as if they haven't eaten anything for years. Prezintenden 17:28, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

I call these freaks of nature Fatheads.--PikminLeader 22:02, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

I have just now added a new picture that is offical art of Nintendo of it now. It has been uploaded now.--Spotty Bulbear

No offense, but that picture isn't really of terrific quality. The resolution is pretty low. It would be great if you could find a better one. Even then, though, it's kind of nice to have different pictures on different pages, just to mix it up a little. —Jimbo Jambo
Re-uploaded at proper resolution - it was pixellated, so proper size is less. GP

Wait, why does the article say this creature appears in the Distant Planet Stage in Brawl? 'Cause it doesn't. <_< -So sayeth LE the Creator. 17:23, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

I'd check, but frankly, I just happened to lend my Wii to my sister yesterday. I assume you're certain about it, but I find it possible that it gets switched with a Red Bulborb sometimes.--Prezintenden
It doesn't. The stage has: One slant, one vine thing, two leaves, characters, items, pellets, Onions, A Red Bulborb, and rain. I'm ~LonelyRedpikminsprite.jpgTurret~ And I approve this message.
I'm thinking confusion with 'Spotty Bulborb'. GP
Oh, and DWARF Red Bulborbs in the background, much confusion I sense. I'm ~LonelyRedpikminsprite.jpgTurret~ And I approve this message.
There's also a cloaking burrow-nit, isn't there? That could be mistaken for a spotty bulbear. —Jimbo Jambo
The Burrow Nit appears when it rains maybe... I'm ~LonelyRedpikminsprite.jpgTurret~ And I approve this message.
I'm a Brawl-FREAK, guys, and I can tell you that there is NO Bulbear in that stage. Also, the rain has ZERO effect on what fauna appears there. There is a snoozing Red Bulborb in the far background, right next to the shell of a buried Burrow-nit, as well as a big Bulborb on a log that walks up to the stage and eats you. My guess is that the Burrow-nit's shell pattern was misidentified as the pattern on a Bulbear's rump. =P -So sayeth LE the Creator. 21:35, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
Ah-Yes I'm ~LonelyRedpikminsprite.jpgTurret~ And I approve this message.

in pikmin1, under some bulbear observation. I could just be seeing things, but it's spotts almost seam to be constantly increasing and decreasing like-o O o O o O o O o-and so on... does anybody notice this or am I just seein' things? it'sa PK king

that's how we know you didn't read--Large pixal snowy bulborb.PNGSnowy bulborb

I've always noticed that.Masta pikmin 14:37, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

So have I, but I still found it kind of disturbing. I forget if they mentioned why the spots did this in one of the games. Do any other grub-dogs have spots that change their sizes? Portal-Kombat

In Pikmin 1 dwarf bulbears did.Masta pikmin 18:32, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

I read the article long ago and my memory's bad... you do the math. it'sa -PK king

I just fixed that typo 4 times! could someone get rid of that box! it'sa PK king

The box was removed. There was a space at the start of the line. That equals a <pre> tag, according to wiki formatting. --Yoshord

Unfair[edit]

Ok i was in frontier cavern trying to kill this thing like i usualy do (put my pikmin on the other side of the wall and attack it with purples) and it started to be mean and EAT MY PIKMIN THROUGH THE WALL. And i think that this thing is a jerk now.Lemmy911 23:29, January 26, 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, that stinks! The same thing happens with water dumples (or as I like to call 'em, water dorks). It was so cheap! I was like "ha ha sucka you can't get me!" then the stupid dumple just ate my pikmin right through the wall.-Legendlink

Uh, let's use some common sense here. The enemies lunge forward, and the wall isn't that thick.Pikdude200px-Mario you phail.gif 00:33, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

Wow! That sounds like something that would happen to my friend. He has had so many glitches happen to him in Pikmin that I've started to think that his disk has gone rogue. --Louie G. 16:46, 4 June 2012 (EDT)

Oh, and by the way: OMNOMNOM! --Louie G. 16:47, 4 June 2012 (EDT)

Is there a "Wandering Enemies" category? - CraftedPbody (talkcontribs)

Honestly, how many enemies "wander" the areas?
I can think of two. These guys, and Gatling Groinks. It wouldn't be worth it. - Dart Monkey (talkcontribs)
In Pikmin, the Swooping Snitchbug kind of wanders the area, and in Pikmin 3, the Baldy Long Legs wanders Bingo Battle/Mission Mode levels. It's still a small group to be sure, but I see nothing wrong with it's existence. - Scittery Leaves23 (talkcontribs)
Go for it, I say. - Jpmrocks7 (talkcontribs)
Too little enemies that wander, although they're all pretty tough. Gatling Groink! - Diribug3 (talkcontribs)

It'd be surprising how many enemies actually wander. I had to think really hard about what enemies do wander before adding them. - CraftedPbody (talkcontribs)

Comment by Dr.eggpikmin on 30th April 2014[edit]

Well, in my book a wandering enemy is a enemy that moves a certain distence without player imput. So I think the Ranging Bloyster, Toady Bloyster, Puffy Blowhog, Withering Blowhog, Puffstool, Baldy Long Legs, Swooping Snitchbug (Pikmin 1 only), Spotty Bulbear (Pikmin 2 and 3 only)  and Gatling Groink could be counted. There's a lot more than you'd expect. - Dr.eggpikmin (talkcontribs)

sorry if I missed any from Pikmin 3, I don't own a Wii U. Also I apparently can't spell - Dr.eggpikmin (talkcontribs)

Comment by Whiptoungbulborb8 on 11th July 2014[edit]

I swear, these things scared the crap out of me in pikmin 2, because they walked around and revived themselves. - Whiptoungbulborb8 (talkcontribs)

They scared me more in pikmin because of those bloodshot eyes - TheYellowSteve (talkcontribs)

lost mobility[edit]

In Pikmin 3, I was playing with the Bulbear, and I noticed that it lost it's mobility from Pikmin 2, cause I was on the ledge, and it spotted me so it ran up to me excitedly, and stopped at the edge and stomped it's foot, cause it couldn't get me, now it would've been able to reach me in Pikmin 2, also I noticed it won't leave the cave, and it walks right through that higher Bloominus Stemple, oh, I also exited the cave and when I went back in I immediately took damage from a Bulbear bite. But should the loss of Mobility be listed in the weaknesses?Pikmin Theories (talk) 08:26, 1 March 2017 (EST)

I think it might be worth a small mention, yeah. — {EspyoT} 15:42, 1 March 2017 (EST)

Trivia about Bulbear's eyes turning red in Pikmin 1 depending on the circumstance is incorrect[edit]

the trivia in question: "In Pikmin, the pupil color of Spotty and Dwarf Bulbears changes depending on the circumstance. They are a piercing, bloodshot red if actively pursuing prey, and indigo when not, such as when returning to their territory to fall back asleep.[2]"

as far as I'm aware, the Bulbear's eyes change color because of some sort of combination of their orientation and the camera's orientation

notice how in this clip, when the Bulbear turns to the right, its eyes turn back to purple, yet it is still awake and pursuing Pikmin: https://youtu.be/Avjo5OGyS2Q?t=17978

and here, long after this Bulbear has been defeated, notice how as the player gradually rotates their camera, its pupils start to change from purple to red: https://youtu.be/Avjo5OGyS2Q?t=18096

Above is why I attempted to remove the trivia about the Spotty Bulbear's red eyes[edit]

Months went by without anyone acknowledging the above section I added showing how that's not exactly how their red eyes work, so I figured that no one cared and removed that section from the main article. If anyone took the time to look at what I wrote, or at least the videos I linked, they'd realize the trivia isn't 100% accurate.

I don't think that no one cared, I think it's that no one noticed that the talk page was updated in the first place. -Gulliblepikmin 20:54, January 6, 2024 (EST)
