Hello! I'm Soprano, formerly called Botanist. I'm an active editor and patroller here on Pikipedia, making many kinds of contributions. Pikmin 3 is my favorite Pikmin game and most of my edits have been related to it, but I work on documenting the other games too. I also help keep the main page templates updated, and upload lots of images from time to time. If you need to ask me a question about the wiki, feel free to ask on my talk page, or join Pikipedia's Discord server and ask there.

Me and the wiki

I first learned about Pikmin when Pikmin 3 came out. I didn't know about Pikipedia or any game wiki at the time. I got New Play Control! Pikmin for my Wii, but it was too hard for me and I stopped playing halfway through. In mid-2014 I got a Wii U and Pikmin 3, and that game was much more doable. I got New Play Control! Pikmin 2 in early 2016, and it was also too difficult, mainly because I didn't want to lose any Purple Pikmin.

In late 2016, I found Pikipedia, through Bulbapedia. I started reading the wiki, and for the first few months of 2017 it was one of my favorite websites. I fondly remember when Chaenostoma cordatum was the featured article. I was eventually able to beat Pikmin 2 with some help from the wiki, and later Pikmin as well. (When I say "I" in this paragraph and the last, I really mean "I and the person I live with"; until 2019, they played a lot more Pikmin than I did, and I mostly watched.) Throughout this time, I read the wiki a lot, eventually reading pretty much every article on the site, but I never thought of editing it. I got Hey! Pikmin when it came out, but by then I wasn't reading the wiki much.

A few years later, I finally decided to join Pikipedia in January 2020. At first I didn't edit very much, doing a few small edits and projects. But in August, Pikmin 3 Deluxe was announced. On the Pikmin Discord server (Pikcord), I became one of the most active theorists about the new game, looking at promotional material and discussing it with others. And on Pikipedia, I started uploading lots of promotional images and screenshots from trailers about this game. This led me to start editing more things. In particular, I noticed that the Menu article was getting very large and was lacking a lot of Pikmin 3 and Hey! Pikmin information. I proposed to split the article into smaller articles about each menu screen to allow this extra information to be documented, and the resulting project to split the article and document more menu screens was my first major Pikipedia project. When Pikmin 3 Deluxe came out, I uploaded a lot of screenshots to the wiki, mostly of the Side Stories stages, while documenting its new and updated features as well.

In 2021, I started making more diverse edits to the wiki. I did various small projects throughout the year, such as researching hints and objectives, making Pikmin 3 Deluxe area maps, and rewriting some notable pages, including Pikipedia:About, Help:Editing, and Pikmin family. On August 21st, 2021, my username was changed from Botanist to Soprano to match the name I use on the Pikcord. When Pikmin Bloom was released, I became the most active contributor of information about the new game, creating several articles, doing research with others, and documenting community findings.

In 2022, I continued to document the frequent changes to Pikmin Bloom (which became rather annoying to do after a while), as well as do other wiki projects. I wrote an article on weight, looked through every file on the wiki to revive the featured image system, and analyzed the entire Hey! Pikmin soundtrack. On April 4th, 2022, I was promoted to patroller on the wiki. Now that Pikmin 4 has been announced, I'm really looking forward to documenting all its new features, and I'd encourage others to join this great wiki to help out!

Plans

These are some things I plan to do sometime when I have time, but feel free to work on them if you want – a wiki is never complete, and when there are more people helping out, it's a better resource for everyone.

  • Clean up every treasure article, to standardize the format and improve the treatment of regional differences.
  • Expand Hey! Pikmin articles of all kinds. (a big project I plan to do sometime)
  • Add thorough layout descriptions to areas and stages in all game modes. (another big project, won't be for a long time)
  • Make detailed SVG maps of areas. (eventually)
  • Improve the wiki's accessibility to people with less knowledge of the franchise and its mechanics.
