article imagesEdit

Is there any reason you're switching them round so the concept art, the one that looks less like what's seen in-game, is more prominent? GP

You callin' my screenshots simple? Um, anyway...yeah, if you intend to change it on every enemy page, it would be best to make a forum topic about it so the community can decide. I guess it's all a matter of preference; I prefer the screenshots since they're what you see and...well...I captured a lot of them... GP

ArtworkEdit

Where did you find all this artwork? It's amazing, especially the Violet Candypop Bud artwork. Pikmin 1254

Actually, some of these images were already there, but for some reason they weren't being used. The few images I uploaded are from GameHiker (I received permission). Blue Ninjakoopa 18:26, February 7, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for saving my user page. Can you please protect it for autoconfirmed, since I'm not an admin here and can't ban the fools myself. No problem. I protected it for a week since it isn't a major target for vandalism, but if more occurs, I'll extend the time. :) BNK [E|T|C] 03:11, March 12, 2010 (UTC)
I appreciate it, but can you also block the guy's socks? Green and the others had the discussion about it on the user's I.P. talk page. He lied to the admin, so his socks need to get blocked.--FREAK ~Game  Freak~OUT!
I blocked Marc95 and Zeldaman101; what more are there? List them here so I'll know who to block. BNK [E|T|C] 03:16, March 12, 2010 (UTC)

SkinEdit

I wouldn't call this site's 'well-thought-out' or 'authentic' since I did it quite a long time ago, but yeah, I wouldn't mind helping. Not so much with the design (colour scheme, images if any, etc.) as with the code to implement it all, but yeah, 'kay, if I have the time. Do people there have some kind of idea what they want? Also, the logo - if the wiki's active enough and has any graphics-y people, maybe a logo contest like they had at Wikitroid a while back would be nice, since the one there doesn't do much (...and no, that's not something I could do, considering this wiki's logo, though I guess I have improved since then). GP

QuestionEdit

What's the difference between a frame and a thumb?  Pikmin 1254

A thumb promises the clicker of the image within the thumb that the image will be larger. If the image is the same size as it is in the thumb, then it shouldn't be in a thumb, but in a frame, which shows that the image is at its full size. Yes, it does matter. BNK [E|T|C] 21:58, March 16, 2010 (UTC)
Much obliged.  Pikmin 1254

Pikmin 3 Ideas deleted?Edit

why did you delete my pikmin 3 ideas?

Unnecessary. You could try placing that information on your own user page. If you want ideas from the community, make a forum. The mainspace is not your personal drawing pad. BNK [E|T|C] 23:43, June 25, 2010 (UTC)

Kirby skin updateEdit

Top, bottom. I went for a dark content area, most like the SSBM stage. I'll (probably) add shading to the trees, and there are some bits left to do, mostly content area things like ToCs and galleries and whatever else I can find in use. I've also yet to test in IE.

Questions:

  • I'm having trouble seeing a non-disruptive way of getting the fountain itself in; suggestions, assuming it's still important?
  • The line through the tabs at the top is a bit distracting; this is an alternative, but the logo area doesn't look as nice when it's not as well-separated; which is better/what else could I do?
  • Are the colours okay? Text, links, backgrounds, images? Still colour-blind here...

And overall impression, I guess? GP

It looks fantastic so far.
  • That is a hard question, but I'm guess you can place the fountain in like you did the trees, except higher and somewhere on the right. Would there be a way to make the pages see-through enough so that text isn't disrupted too much?
  • While it is distracting, it's nothing to be concerned with, but I like your alternative. The logo floating out there isn't too nice; would you be able to enlarge it a bit, or make one using [this]? Kirby himself doesn't necessarily need to be present in the logo, and with him out, there is more room.
  • Every color looks incredible, you did an outstanding job so far.
Overall impression: I love it, and I'm sure the community will too. A little tweak here and there as listed above, but otherwise it's perfect. BNK [E|T|C] 21:32, July 26, 2010 (UTC)
The only reason I could place the trees outside of the page is because that part of the page is often empty: something fills pretty much everywhere else. So yeah, that leaves behind the content. I'd also have to create the image.
I quite like the current logo, and I don't think having a different logo would make it look any better: it's more the lack of separation from the Wikia logo above it, which is in the header.
Anyway, I'm going on holiday for a week from tomorrow, and don't think I'll have it ready before leaving. I did some stuff to overcome an IE limitation to make some images work, but it's made apparent some overlapping issues in IE. Other than that, it should be just (simple) shading on the trees and rehosting the images. GP
Create what image? The fountain? If that isn't too much, could you make it to replace the trees since you can't place it anywhere else?
OK, so I guess I'll take option number 2.
OK. BNK [E|T|C] 02:42, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
Okay, well, talk to GameFreak about the fountain since you seem to have different ideas. Which was option 2? GP
I'm sure he'll agree with me. By option number two, I mean removing that transparent whitespace behind the Wiki logo. BNK [E|T|C] 21:19, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
This for the logo area? It's got the bar, but it doesn't extend: best of both. GP
That looks fine tbh. BNK [E|T|C] 21:32, August 8, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, I've fixed the issues I was having for IE >6 and am now personally happy with everything. Based on my earlier attempt at the fountain (here if you haven't seen it), I'm not sure how much success I would have with it. We couldn't find any decent images before, if I were to try to use an existing one.

Note that since the content area is now dark, visual templates like infoboxes and page footers, and the headers on the main page, will need new styles. I'm not sure whether it would be easier to start on those before changing the skin - what do you think? Simply outright changing them would make them look terrible in every other skin, though - I can do some stuff to get them working for all, if you need me to. GP

The fountain looks good, but if you are able, could you make the fountain look more like [this]? If you can't, that's fine.
Could you? I'd appreciate that, and thank you in advance. You're right, just changing them wouldn't be a very smart tactic, even though I'm unsure if other users use any other skin than our custom one. BNK [E|T|C] 17:26, August 10, 2010 (UTC)
The huge one (the whole stage) or the small one on the stage that's actually similar to the original (and mine)? Though, TBH, I was giving that image as an example of my failure to make a decent fountain. Obviously I would make it the right shape and give it all the base it needs (its function's changed from what I had in mind when making it). I quite like my trees, and overlapping is always good, so if you actually think this thing looks usable, I could integrate them together, in the one image, same position.
Regarding people using other skins, I was thinking more Monobook users, especially noting that Wikia skin choice can't be made on a per-wiki basis. GP
Oh, well in that case, disregard my comment (sort of; I think the draft is nice, but I don't want to use it); I would prefer it if you used whichever one is easier for you (or, whichever one you could work with best).
I see.BNK [E|T|C] 18:05, August 10, 2010 (UTC)
Disregard your comment saying not to use this one; you don't want me to use this one; you would prefer I did whatever's easiest for me, which is using what I have. Which is it? (I'm not an artist: I don't see myself doing anything much better.) GP
lol
I said: Disregard my comment on changing the fountain to the given example, I had no clue it was a draft; if you can't choose, I suppose I want you to do the fountain from the Kirby games, not Melee; so yes, use the fountain from the Kirby games, BUT, if you find that too difficult of a task, use what you have and edit from there. Hopefully these options are clear, and I apologize if I'm starting to seem bossy. :$ BNK [E|T|C] 18:53, August 10, 2010 (UTC)
Think this would do? Without the background, of course. GP
Yes. BNK [E|T|C] 19:39, August 10, 2010 (UTC)

Okay, this (which I think looks weird, having different styles together), this (which is sad 'cause I like my trees) (I would fade out the waterfall-type things so they don't just stop; I did do this, but clearly not enough) or this? GP

Definitely the third option. :D BNK [E|T|C] 21:49, August 13, 2010 (UTC)
Blech, you need to do some discussing, 'cause GameFreak said 1st, and comment on my talk says 1st/2nd. GP
It's not his decision tbh.. but OK. BNK [E|T|C] 20:40, August 14, 2010 (UTC)
I thought you were both admins? Plus how he was the one who originally approached me. GP
I'm sure he'll agree since there be no significant difference. BNK [E|T|C] 20:56, August 14, 2010 (UTC)
Okay, bro, we'll use the third one. When will this be implemented by? I want it to be changed before KEY comes out.... --FREAK ~Game  Freak~OUT!
I'm sure it's near completion. BNK [E|T|C] 04:32, August 15, 2010 (UTC)
Pretty much. Thing is, I'm going away on holiday again for a week tomorrow. What I'll do is compress/upload the images later today, give you the code, and then if you want, you can add it while I'm gone. Of course, the templates won't look good (I'll look at how much work that would be later on today), and if there are other issues I won't be here to help. Otherwise, just wait another week. GP

Don't worry about that. :)
You were right about the templates. Since there needs to be some adjustments, I won't implement it immediately; I'll instead make it a personal option for users (temporarily). I'm bad with coding, so it will be heard spotting what to adjust.
Overall it looks great. Thank you so much! I will await your return! BNK [E|T|C] 22:33, August 15, 2010 (UTC)
Also, the background is different (darker and less aurora-y); what happened to it? BNK [E|T|C] 22:35, August 15, 2010 (UTC)
I tested it and it looks fantastic, but I have two complaints.
  1. The templates to the left where the search bar is looks weird. Is this fixable?
  2. Is it possible to make the background of the recent changes transparent like it is here on the Pikmin Wiki?

Overall, I love it Green. --FREAK ~Game  Freak~OUT!

BNK: background shouldn't be different to the screenshots I posted earlier. Browser/OS? A screenshot would help.
GameFreak: the navigation menu stuff? Do you mean the colours or the way it opens in-place instead of to the right? If the former, it's probably because you used your personal monaco.css with the wiki-wide one still containing stuff; if the latter, it's the best thing I could come up with - the change is necessary for complicated reasons, working around various things I couldn't really avoid entirely. GP
[1] <- Here, black text every where is turned white. That would mean fixing up every template that uses it. Also, the background is very dark; much darker than the background you had showed me.
Overall, I think the purple should be lighter along with the background. I saw that there was a "fog" code but it didn't work, so maybe a new background image could include such? The fountain is well-placed, though. BNK [E|T|C] 20:19, August 22, 2010 (UTC)
You're just missing an image that's meant to sit on top of the background you're seeing, that gives an overall lighter impression. It has a fixed position in the browser window, so it moves as you scroll: apparently IE pre-7 doesn't support this, which is why it's not visible. (The 'fog' stuff is the stuff at the bottom of the page (which should be fine if the fountain is).)
I can look into some sort of hack, which would probably involve more JavaScript; or I can set it to stay at the top-left of the screen (not viewport) in browsers without position: fixed support (so it doesn't move as you scroll); or I can leave it as it is and we can make the internet a better place by telling people to use a better browser (one that isn't almost a decade old) if they want things to work properly. Note that support for IE6 and earlier is being dropped by most sane people.
I think the purple should be lighter along with the background - which purple? Are you saying my previous screenshots aren't what you want any more? Is this because of the templates (that I've said are fixable)?
I also noticed the Wikia logo was missing, caused by me failing at copying the URL; it's now fixed above. GP
The general article background (which was originally white), where the text is. The purple is very dark and greatly contrasts with nearly everything on every article. I think that it should be kept white, now, since we have open images with no cropped whitespace, which is visible on a page which has a color other than white. The templates are also affected by the link and text color. BNK [E|T|C] 21:07, August 22, 2010 (UTC)
...This? If you thought a different content area background color would be an issue, it would've helped to learn it earlier. However, I see very few 'open' images, which I assume means ones without frames, since those look fine, as do galleries. I can only find them in templates and the main page. GP
Yes, like that. Sorry, I just thought having a purple page color would work well. Open images appear on articles that were featured, won at the Superstar Arena, and on articles on Air Machines and Bikes. BNK [E|T|C] 21:47, August 22, 2010 (UTC)
That doesn't look terrible to you? I'm still wondering how much work it would be to translucent-ify the images, 'cause the ones you listed seem to amount to 10 or fewer, plus the many of them small, and I really hate having the content area different to everything else by a silly amount. Featured articles don't seem to have any, just the small excerpt shown on the main page and in the archive (and only for 2 of those?). I have no idea how to find 'Superstar Arena' winner articles - is there more than that one image on the project page?
...I don't mean to create too much work in the future, but I like things to be perfect. While the white content area is an acceptable temporary solution, I doubt there'll be much motivation to change it later on once it's in place... Iunno. Also, the question about what to do with the clouds in IE<7 still needs an answer.
*Thinks a bit more* I guess...maybe...it looks okay... Meh, it's up to you/whoever else is involved in this. I guess don't like to see it being used over a nicer-looking alternative...
...Completely forgot about GameFreak's Recent Changes thing. I'm not sure why you're singling out that page, since every page here is transparent. With that (starry) background, I think it would distract from the text a bit more, but it might look okay. ...I'm confused as to why you're suggesting what seems like a random thing. GP
Uh.. well, still, a silly amount is still an amount. I feel the skin has to accommodate every article. I honestly think a white page color would work and not clash with the overall background if the background itself was lighter. Perhaps you could make the background look more like [this] (if it isn't too much work)? I don't want to make you constantly work. I'd just feel terrible, and at the same time I don't want to just call the project off, as you've worked really hard on it. Superstar Arena winners get a template on their article that places a star at the top right. The same goes for articles that were featured. The project pages themselves don't feature such.
What was the question again? I can't find it. Also, I, too, am a perfectionist.
:) BNK [E|T|C] 23:37, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

...By 'a silly amount', I meant 'a large amount'. I have this from a while back, but the pixel-art style clashes with the rest of the page. If you wanted the cloud things on it too, I failed to get them to tile without looking like it or having a huge image. Besides, it's not so much the background only as everything else on the page. Though, like I said, it's not so bad: I just over-reacted because it's (aesthetically) a step down.

To quote: I can look into some sort of hack, which would probably involve more JavaScript; or I can set it to stay at the top-left of the screen (not viewport) in browsers without position: fixed support (so it doesn't move as you scroll); or I can leave it as it is and we can make the internet a better place by telling people to use a better browser (one that isn't almost a decade old) if they want things to work properly. Note that support for IE6 and earlier is being dropped by most sane people.

...But wait, if you were using IE6, you wouldn't get PNG transparency. Something else is going on. What browser are you using? GP

Completely forgot about GameFreak's Recent Changes thing. I'm not sure why you're singling out that page, since every page here is transparent Yes, this is what I meant. --FREAK ~Game  Freak~OUT!
Yeah, it would cause the same problem as a different-coloured background by effectively making the background a different colour. BNK, updated the code above to make the content background white. It means the edit diff view and input boxes and ToCs and categories and thumbnails and stuff don't look as nice, but I tried to come up with decent colours that match the light background they're on and the colours present outside of the content area. I don't know if you've checked here since my last reply, but I'd still like your browser details to work out why you're not seeing that cloud. GP
In response to your question: Currently, on this available computer, Javascript mostly fails to run (hence me not being at the chatroom much) and I'm unsure how to fix it. Right now, I think I have IE8 (I think; it might still be 7, but my computer's damage from being attacked (explained later) won't allow me to download nor update) , but it has its problems ever since my computer was attacked by viruses. Seamonkey is functional, and I use it most, especially for IRC, but it also shows the problems I mentioned with the skin.
In response to your first paragraph: Huh? Not that that was worded badly, and I usually understand 'big' vocabulary words, but that paragraph confused me a little. Are you saying that the image I suggested to you clashes, or are you saying that the image you showed me clashes?
In response to your recent paragraph: Thanks, I'll give it a look. BNK [E|T|C] 22:00, August 24, 2010 (UTC)
Well, if JS is broken, the fountain image shouldn't be there, and the image you don't see doesn't require any JS. But I was just checking, in case it might affect a lot of people, but it does sound like it'll probably be just you...
The image I linked to is something I generated from the background of the one you gave - they're the same thing. GP
White background for the pages is very ugly and clashing, I liked the original blackish-purple background better, tbh. --FREAK ~Game  Freak~OUT!
Well, yeah, me too. GP
Well, fuck, if we can't agree...
@Gamefreak - That's why I suggested a lighter background like the sprite version of the Fountain of Dreams. Clashing can be pretty bad, but I provided ideas on fixing it.
This is definitely quite the pickle... I mean sticky wicket. I think all in all we just wanted to get rid of that unfitting indigo on the pink skin and tackled this early. BNK [E|T|C] 00:21, August 26, 2010 (UTC)
That's what you were getting at suggesting that? It's not a great deal lighter, has the same problem and introduces worse problems of its own. As I see it, unless you want to use the darker content area, the above code is a usable finished product. I don't think it's terrible. GP

Hello, so you like Pikmin too?Edit

I was surprised to see you here, so what's it like not being the admin here. XD Marx Wraith 03:52, August 14, 2010 (UTC)

I requested that my adminship be revoked when Jimbo got upset with me and made a forum petition to remove it. It was pretty cool; like shooting yourself in the head before the plasma grenade stuck on you exploded. BNK [E|T|C] 20:40, August 14, 2010 (UTC)

You certainly make enemies as often as you make friends XDMarx Wraith 05:44, August 15, 2010 (UTC)

MovingEdit

The original idea for the move began on Pikcanon-NOT on August 26, 2010. It gradually grew, the matter was seriously discussed, and, here we are! Wait, you did ask Greenpickle, not me... (slips out of room) Vol (Talk)
