Onion

The Onions are the Pikmin motherships. Their only known functions are flying, making Pikmin, and storing Pikmin. There are only 3 known Onions, which correspond to the red, yellow, and blue Pikmin. There are no known white, purple (though they are actually stored in the ship), or Bulbmin Onions. They will create Pikmin if dead enemies or pellets are carried to them, and will shoot out seeds surrounding the Onion in a small circle to sprout. Pikmin kept in the ground over time will grow from the leaf stage to the bud and flower stages. If every single Pikmin of its color is dead, the Onion will create a single Pikmin, to prevent extinction.

5 pink Onions, 3 black, 2 light blue, a brown, an orange, a green, and a purple. They appeared as Olimar left the planet for the first time

At the end of Pikmin, there is a rather confusing part where dozens of Onions of colors that have not appeared in a Pikmin game so far fly above the Planet of the Pikmin, but it is unknown whether they are trying to follow Captain Olimar or merely hovering for the night. This may mean that more colors are yet to come if Pikmin 3 is being made.
