Several white Bacopa Cabana.

The Bacopa Cabana,[1] commonly known as the Pikmin Flower, is a type of real-world flower cultivated to resemble the flowers that Pikmin grow on their heads. Bacopa Cabana comes in four colors: white, similar to the flowers of Pikmin; rose, similar to the flowers of Pikmin 2; blue, similar to the flowers of Pikmin 3; and pink. [2]

History[edit]

Bacopa Cabana is a cultivated species of Chaenostoma cordatum used to market Pikmin's release in North America.[3] Nintendo announced the creation of the cultivar through an agreement with S&G Flowers USA, now known as Syngenta Flowers, in late 2001. The flower became commercially available in April the following year, five months after the release of the game. The full press release can be found here. The flower is not patented in the United States Patent System, and can thus be grown freely.[4] It is possible that the flowers of Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 3 were based on colorations of Bacopa Cabana, however Pikmin Bloom and Pikmin 4 introduce Pikmin flowers with colors that do not correspond to any Bacopa Cabana.
