A Red Onion.
The Onions are the Pikmin motherships. Their only known functions are flying, making Pikmin, and storing Pikmin. There are only 3 known Onions, which correspond to the red, yellow, and blue Pikmin. There are no known white, purple (though they actually stored in the ship), or Bulbmin Onions. They will create Pikmin if dead enemies or pellets are carried to them, and will spit them out around itself to sprout. Pikmin kept in the ground over time will grow from the leaf stage to the bud and flower stages.

If every single Pikmin of its color is dead, the Onion will create a single Pikmin, to prevent extinction.
