The ship in Pikmin 3, nicknamed Drake (ドレイク), much like the other ships from the Pikmin series, serves as the main storage unit for all the gathered objects found by the captains. Its other purpose is to transport the captains from place to place. Charlie is his captain.

Appearance

Drake is much different from the ships in Pikmin and Pikmin 2 because he looks more futuristic and it has a different style of cockpit that may also be an access hatch. Drake has a base, from which 4 legs protrude, containing green lights and several other designs.

Directly on top the base is a round body, featuring red lights among other unique characteristics. He holds the 3 captains, also has a long antenna latched onto the top along with a satellite that launches a blue laser beam to collect objects. He appears to have a world map on the back side.

Background

In the beginning of the game, Drake is seeing searching various planets in an attempt to locate a suitable source of food for the starving planet of Koppai. Upon the discovery of PNF-404, Drake picks up Alph, Brittany, and Captain Charlie before initiating warp-drive. Upon arriving at PNF-404, something goes wrong as Drake attempts to enter the atmosphere, causing him to violently explode and eject the three occupants onto the planet below, all of which who land on different locations on the planet's surface. During the crash, Drake loses an important mechanism, the Cosmic-drive Key.

Charlie awakes in a snowy world, where he discovered Yellow Pikmin. However, his side of the story is cut short as he is soon abducted by the Vehemoth Phosbat.

After landing in a pool of water, Alph regains conciousness to see a damaged Drake overhead, struggling to land safely. The sight startles him enough to wake him up fully, and he begins to explore the surrounding area alone. He eventually finds the Red Pikmin and their Onion, and using their help, is able to recover his KopPad device and relocate Drake, who was able to land safely.
