Purple Pikmin, however, do not do damage, but deliver knockback to the foe. White Pikmin are very useful for this attack. They do three times more damage then any other Pikmin. It should be noted that Yellow Pikmin fly slowly, less far, and with a high arc. White Pikmin are thrown fast and horizontal, and Purple Pikmin are thrown short.
*Olimars down tilt special attack is Pikmin Whistle. This move allows Olimar to call any stray Pikmin to him, and organize Pikmin by color. After the Pikmin are organized, this move rearranges Pikmin (if Blue Pikmin were at the front and he used this, white Pkmin would move ot the front and blue Pikmin would moe to the back). Pikmin change in order just like in Pikmin 2, that is, Red, Yellow, Blue, White, Purple. A unforseen benefiet to this move it that for a few frames while he is about to blow his whistle, he is invulnerable to knockback, thoug he can still take damage and can still be grabbed. This is very benefical because Olimar can counter attack faster then he would if he shielded.
*Olimars up tilt special attack is Pikmin Chain, whereby he throws his Pikmin at a 45° angle. This move has excellent range, and fair knockback and range. It is best used as a surprise attack, and is fast and efficent. Using this move does NOT change the order of the Pikmin. The main purpose of this move is as a recovery (that is, to get back on the stage after being kncoked off). This move has incredible range if there are six ikmin at your side, but has one flaring weakness: if a opponent is grabbing the ledge, Olimar's Pikmin Chain does not have the ability to grab the ledge. This can be countered by throwing a Purple Pikmin at the ledge, knocking off the opponent. This move's range is dependt on the number of Pikmin at Olimar's side.

Elements from the Pikmin series have appeared in several other Nintendo games. The Super Smash Bros. series in particular is well-known for having references to multitudes of Nintendo series and, more recently, those of other companies.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

The Pikmin trophy in the second Super Smash Bros. game.

Two of this games large amount of almost 300 trophies are based on Pikmin. One features a group of standing Pikmin of the three colors that are present in the first game in the series, while the other is a trophy of Captain Olimar.

Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour

If the player hits the ball into a Flower Bed, occasionly, the three Pikmin types from the first game will fly out.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Olimar and the Pikmin in Brawl.

Olimar is featured as one of the playable characters in the third game of the series, and is on the starting roster (as opposed to being a secret character that needs to be unlocked). Nearly all of his moves involve the Pikmin, making him dependent on them. Even the simple "grab", in which the player holds an opponent, requires Pikmin. Up to six of these can be plucked from the ground, the color is randomly determined (however, the type of ground is a factor in the probability of picking each color). The range of Pikmin covers all of those that are found in Pikmin 2 except Bulbmin. The Pikmin can die if they are harmed in any way Olimar or any other character can be. Olimar does not take damage when this happens, and each dead one allows one more to be pulled from the ground.

The "Distant Planet", a stage in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

There is a stage based on the Awakening Wood, named the Distant Planet. Red Bulborbs, which can harm players, and some human-made objects are visible, such as an empty drinks can. Pellet Posies are seen too, and can produce Pellets that can be thrown into Pikmin onions to produce items.

Brawl also features a fair number of Pikmin trophies, the majority being various beasts.

A number of music tracks from both Pikmin games are included and are played in the various levels and cutscenes.

Olimars moves differ in damage, knockback, and range depending on the type of Pikmin.

  • His neutral special attack, that is, his special attack whilst not tilting the control stick, is Pikmin Pluck. It allows him to pluck up to six Pikmin. The type of Pikmin plucked is not noticably dependent on the area being picked. This move can only be preformed on the ground, and if you use it while running and have five or less Pikmin, stops Olimar instantly.

This is very benefical because Olimar can counter attack faster then he would if he shielded.

Super Mario Galaxy

A planet shaped like the Hocotate ship in Super Mario Galaxy.
A supposed representation of the ship in Super Mario Galaxy.

In the Space Junk Galaxy, there is a ship that bears great resemblance to The Ship in Pikmin 2. It serves no purpose other than as a planetoid between planetoids, part of the level. It is not a precise recreation, and there has been debate over whether it is indeed modelled on the Pikmin ship or whether any similarities are coincidence. The main features that allow a connection to be drawn are the colors, three fins and two bubble-shaped cockpit windows.

Warioware: Smooth Moves

The Empress Bulblax makes a cameo appearance in the game WarioWare: Smooth Moves, wherein the player must tilt the Wii-mote to roll the beast from side to side in an endeavour to squash Pikmin. This mini-game is called "Pikmin 2".
