Hello, and welcome to my User page!
Welcome to my User page. I was an active user on Pikipedia back in 2016 before getting fully involved in other communities. I intend to become somewhat active again with Pikmin 4 being released in just a few months. This page lists things that I took note of during gameplay but did not add anywhere on the wiki back then, although since this page has not been edited for many years now, other contributors might have already added information to the relevant pages. If that is the case, I will delete duplicate information, or you can let me know directly.

I mainly upload videos about Pikmin (glitches, or facts about the gameplay).
I used to upload glitches or other gameplay oddities to my Youtube channel before playing Salmon Run. I'm likely to upload Pikmin 4 videos once the game has been released and for the purpose of contributing to the wiki.

Leader throw preferences
In a voyage log in Pikmin 3, Charlie says that he'd rather throw Alph instead of Brittany.

Gameplay-wise, I've noticed a few interesting things while messing around with the leaders. Requirement: no Pikmin should be following the player, and all leaders should be following.

*While playing as Charlie, if the player is holding Brittany, Alph can be switched to. If Charlie is holding Alph, though, Brittany can't be switched to.
*While playing as Alph, if the player is holding Charlie, Brittany can be switched to. If Alph is holding Brittany, then Charlie can't be switched to.
*While playing as Brittany, if the player is holding Charlie, Alph can be switched to. If Brittany is holding Alph, then Charlie can't be switched to.

Interestingly enough, this somewhat matches the leaders' preferences towards one another which players can infer from in-game conversations:

*Alph admires Charlie > He'd rather not throw him (no confirmation on this).
*Brittany prefers to interact with Alph and not so much with Charlie / she may be disgusted by Charlie > She'd rather throw Alph. Somewhat confirmed in the Japanese and French notes on the Mock Bottom. In the French version of the description specifically, Brittany comments "yuk" when thinking about Charlie. I don't know about the Japanese version.
*Charlie presumably has a crush on Brittany > He'd rather throw Alph (and he confirms it in-game, as stated above).

Ironically, Charlie would rather be a throwee than a thrower, as confirmed here, but he can never be switched to (presumably because no one wants to throw him, according to the above theory).

Additional information from Soprano:

*When playing as Alph/Brittany, you can switch from holding Olimar to Louie, but not from Louie to Olimar.
*When playing as Olimar, you can switch from holding Louie to Alph/Brittany, but not from Alph/Brittany to Louie.
*When playing as Louie, you can switch from holding Olimar to Alph/Brittany, but not from Alph/Brittany to Olimar

Treasure and Enemy Description in the Switch Port
Some enemies and treasures may have different notes in the Switch port. They will be listed here for now.

Winged/White and Rock/Purple Pikmin : evolution?
Cupid's Grenade
That's a thing I think possible. Rock are more powerful when landing on an enemy (just like Purple Pikmin did in Pikmin 2 ) and both types are bigger than others.
Olimar's notes: "What a perplexing fruit... This appears to be from a tree that produces two types of berries that look identical. But some inspire romance, and others do the opposite. It's not easy to tell which is which. I'd better be careful with them. I should also warn Louie, or else he may try to bake this berry in a pie."

Winged and White Pikmin are weaker and smaller. Moreover, both types have compound eyes. Maybe White and Purple Pikmin evolved into Rock and Winged Pikmin? Unfortunately, we will probably never get an answer... unless I simply missed it in the game.

Olimar's notes: "Internal scans reveal that this juicy nugget can support a symbiotic community! Imagine the benefits... The Ship can't stand to even look at bugs, let alone store them. But I had to put my foot down on this one."

Artworks
Love Nugget
Some artworks are reused in each game (their look is updated, though)
Olimar's notes: "This tasty red snack isn't quite a fruit, but doesn't seem like a vegetable either. I've analyzed it extensively, and it appears to be releasing stimulating pheromones. I can imagine my wife and I cooking this into some memorable meals."

The creature is called Yellow Wollyhop in the port (as it was in the EU versions of the NPC! releases) and its scientific name is now "Amphicaris frondiferorum". This change is also reflected in Olimar's notes for the Wolpole.

Doodlebug
The Doodlebug is no longer in the Flint bug family but now in the Flint beetle family. The Glint Beetle remains in the Glint beetle family.
Music in Pikmin: oddities
* Immature Pellet Posies trigger the enemy variation when attacked (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away)
* Semi mature Pellet Posies will trigger the enemy variation:
**if the player was near the Pellet Posies when they evolved (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away)
**if the player attacks the Pellet Posies while the normal music variation is playing
* Mature Pellet Posies trigger the enemy variation:
**if the player is near them as they grow (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away)
**if the player attacks them while the normal music variation is playing
*Bomb rocks trigger the enemy variation for a few seconds when exploding
*When several Pikmin drown at once, the enemy variation will play (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away). (Find how many Pikmin need to drown)
*Fire geysers will trigger the enemy variation when approached
*Candypop Buds will trigger the enemy variation:
**On contact (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away)
**If a Pikmin is thrown into it (the normal variation plays again after moving sufficiently far away)
*Inactive water geysers will trigger the enemy variation only when attacked
*Active water geysers will trigger the enemy variation when approached
*Nectar, when spawning from a patch of weed or a pile of rubble, will trigger the enemy variation
*Honeywisps, when attacked, trigger the enemy variation (only lasts a few seconds).
*When boulders are broken by or crush Captain Olimar, the enemy variation will play (only lasts a few seconds)

Cave experiments
How it works
Leader 2 = The President or Louie.

The first leader that will be controlled when entering a cave is the one that entered another sublevel (the first is excluded) in a previous cave.

Example :

Perplexing Pool, testing with the Citadel of Spiders.

When the day starts, the player controls Olimar.
When entering the cave : the player will either control Olimar or Leader 2 (the last leader who entered a sublevel in a previous cave).
When exiting a cave via the pause menu (in sublevel 1), the player will always control Olimar on the overworld.
When entering the cave again, the player will control the same leader they controlled when entering the cave last time.

How to change which leader will be controlled after landing:

Imagine you are Olimar when landing in the first sublevel of the cave (or vice-versa).
Enter the second sublevel as Leader 2.

The memory is keeping "Leader 2".

Exit the cave, and you'll be controlling Olimar on the overworld. However, if you enter the cave with Olimar (or Leader 2, it doesn't matter), you will first control Leader 2 after landing. This is because The memory has kept "Leader 2".

Now, enter the sublevel 2 as Olimar.

The memory is now keeping "Olimar.

Exit the cave via the pause menu, you'll control Olimar on the overworld. Enter the cave as Leader 2 (or Olimar, it doesn't matter) and normally, you will first control Olimar after landing. This is because The memory has kept "Olimar".

Other experiments
*The memory is kept even when a new day begins.
*On the overworld, the first leader to be controlled will alwyas be Olimar.
*The memory is kept after resetting, in all possible circumstances.
*Each save has its own memory.
*When creating a save, the default parameter is "The memory is keeping "Olimar".
*The leader in memory is kept even if it is down. Example :

"The memory is keeping "Olimar", so I will control Olimar when entering a cave.
After exiting the cave via pause menu (on sublevel 1, I decide to kill Olimar. I enter a cave again as the President. Logically, I will control him when landing, since Olimar is down.
After exiting via the pause menu, I will still control the President...
I decide to finish the current day and start a new one.
I will control Olimar on the new day.
When entering the cave, the first leader I will control will still be Olimar, proving the game has kept him in memory so far.

*The memory is the same for all caves.
*The memory will be kept the same even when the player switches to another leader to exit the cave (as long as they don't enter another subelevel). Tha player can escape either via the pause menu or thanks to a geyser.
*The memory is the same for the President and Louie: recovering the debt does not affect the leader kept in memory by the game. For example, if
"The memory is keeping "Louie" when the player recovers the debt,  "The memory will be keeping "The President" when the player gets back to PNF-404 (it's likely because Louie and the President are considered the same leader = leader 2).

Reminder
Glitch
Projects started back in 2016 (?) but that I never completed. I just noticed the Seed page did make it to the main wiki.

*On the first day in the Awakening Wood, you can only withdraw up to 95 Pikmin because of the Blue Pikmin. However, by retrieving Pellets at the exact moment the sun sets (so, when the countdwon reaches 0), the red Onion will still eject 5 seeds during the cutscene, even if you have 95 Pikmin with you.
Gallery
**Possible explanation : the 5 Blue Pikmin are automatically placed inside their Onion when the cutscene begins, this would explain why the red Onion manages to eject 5 seeds.
