The game takes place directly after the events of {{p}}, and sees [[Captain Olimar]] and [[Louie]] returning to the [[PNF-404|planet of the Pikmin]] to collect [[treasure]] to pay off a large debt. Elements new to the series include a [[2-Player Battle]] mode, underground [[cave]]s, and three new types of [[Pikmin family|Pikmin]]. The game was also ported to the [[Wii]] with added motion controls, under the title {{npcp2}}. Its sequel, {{p3}}, was released nine years later.
