When fighting Sheargrubs with Pikmin, simply have them swarm the creatures, causing them a very quick death. Sheargrubs can only eat one Pikmin at a time, causing very minimal, if any, casualties. This can be done against both male and female Sheargrubs.
Female Sheargrubs are cannon fodder and can be defeated with ease by either the Pikmin or Olimar. The males are also very easy, but if one happens to get a hold of a Pikmin, it is invincible to swarming until the Pikmin dies. If you can throw a Pikmin onto the Sheargrub's back it will die instantly and the Pikmin will be saved. Attack with Olimar if possible.

When fighting Sheargrubs with a captain, you can just run around them repeatedly pressing "A". You can also dismiss all your Pikmin and simply run alone to the Sheargrubs and defeat them with ease. This method is much safer than fighting them with Pikmin.
The male Sheargrub's mysterious invincibility is no longer present here, making them incredibly easy to kill. Simply swarm with a group of Pikmin and they'll have no chance.
