The Pikmin series currently consists of two games, Pikmin and Pikmin 2. Both games have been scored well by critics, the sequel generally higher than Pikmin. There have been a number of rumours in the past concerning a Pikmin 3 being in production for the Nintendo Wii.Finally, on July 15, 2008 at a private conference, Miyamoto said, "We're making Pikmin.", Revealing that a Pikmin 3 is now in the procces of being made. The total number of sales for the series is approximately 2.7 million[1].

Elements from the series also play parts in a number of other Nintendo games, most notably Super Smash Bros. Brawl, in which "Olimar & Pikmin" is a playable character, as well as a Pikmin stage and multiple soundtracks and trophies.
