Areas, Dungeons

Areas

As in the first Pikmin game, there are five areas. Areas in this game are much larger and more dangerous to explore. Like in Pikmin 2, there are multiple dungeons spread throughout each. They tend to be more "open", meaning you won't be stuck in narrow passages very often in an overworld area. When you're flying around the map screen, take a look at the sky. If the sky is grey enough, it might rain where you're going. Rain may block some routes but may also make other passages accessible for a short window of time.

  • Area 1: Southern Seaside

Located where The Impact Site was in Pikmin. This area is right on the water, and you'll have plenty of new territory to explore once you come back here after having discovered the blue Pikmin.

  • Area 2: Explorer's Woods

Located where The Forest of Hope was in Pikmin, although it resembles the Awakening Woods more in appearance.

  • Area 3: Misty Depression

Located where The Forest Navel was in Pikmin. The area is rather barren, but cool and breezy all the same. The position of many of the rocks form many possible routes when the water level rises.

  • Area 4: Horizon Wetland

Located where The Distant Spring was in Pikmin. It looks very much like that area, although there are many more large and confusing stone structures here than before. This area is actually the largest so far in the series.

  • Area 5: Penumbra Plains

Located somewhere between Horizon Wetland and the forboding mountains in the distance. These plains are completely infested with enemies, dark, dangerous and mazelike. Sometimes there is even acid rain!

Dungeons

Similar to the ones in Pikmin 2, only harder, deeper, and with larger sublevels. Some floors are not randomly generated so there can be puzzles which must be solved in order to delve deeper or uncover more treasures. Keys from Pikmin 2's challenge mode sometimes need to be found on the various sublevels to take down certain kinds of obstacles, make hidden treasures appear, etc.
