Are we certain this game happened after pikmin 3? There is no actual evidence of the game's place in the timeline. As far as I know, that theory in which p4 is the follow up to a alternate p1 where olimar eventually crashed and turned into pikmar could be possible. Or maybe I missed something. As is I think it really depends on your interpetation of what's laid out in the game as well as possible explainations for contradictions of events in the previous games. For example you could say the game retcons 1, however you could also say that Olimar obtained brief amnesia (he does seem a bit confused after being rescued and needs you to listen to his story to help him remember) you could say Louie didn't eat the gold Pik Pik carrots yet, or he may be planning to do it again, you could say Louie never met Pikmin before and barely knew Olimar, or you could say Louie is a forgetful sort, I mean this is Louie we're talking about (he does seem a bit absent minded at times) you could say that Olimar never lost the Dolphin or you could say he managed to buy it back. the rescue corps offered to buy him a new ship, you could say that was a joke or you could say that's where the Dolphin 2 came from, you could ssay Kopaii didn't have it's crisis yet, you could say it's having another one, and heres one I thought of recently we can say that the music box that plays 3's theme forshadows Olimar's abduction in 3, or we could say it forshadows the Plasm Wraith could return to chase Olimar down again at a future point. Basically my Point is the whole thing is like one big puzzle, and that's only considering everything we see in game, not to mention any shenanigians that could/could've happened off screen.
