Common changes[edit]

Both games have received their own changes compared to the previous versions, listed in the respective game's article. The following is a list of changes that were equally made to both games.

General[edit]

Controls[edit]

  • The games use an updated control scheme similar to that of more recent games, such as Pikmin 3 and Pikmin 3 Deluxe.
    • Icon for the Right Stick on the Nintendo Switch. Edited version of the icon by ARMS Institute user PleasePleasePepper, released under CC-BY-SA 4.0. is now used to freely control the camera. In order to swarm, the player must hold down Icon for the L button on the Nintendo Switch. Edited version of the icon by ARMS Institute user PleasePleasePepper, released under CC-BY-SA 4.0. while tilting Icon for the Right Stick on the Nintendo Switch. • Icon for the Left Stick click on the Nintendo Switch. Edited version of the icon by ARMS Institute user PleasePleasePepper, released under CC-BY-SA 4.0. now resets the cursor.
    • Icon for the Right Stick click on the Nintendo Switch. Edited version of the icon by ARMS Institute user PleasePleasePepper, released under CC-BY-SA 4.0. makes the leader lie down, in favor of each game's original way of lying down.
  • The motion controls have been altered, and are very different from the scheme used in the New Play Control! games, rather using the same scheme from Pikmin 4.
    • With the controls enabled, tilting the controller while holding Icon for the A button on the Nintendo Switch. Edited version of the icon by ARMS Institute user PleasePleasePepper, released under CC-BY-SA 4.0. or Icon for the B button on the Nintendo Switch. Edited version of the icon by ARMS Institute user PleasePleasePepper, released under CC-BY-SA 4.0. will move the cursor.
    • The Pikmin are controlled with the stick, rather than the cursor like in the Wii version.
  • A carryover from later games, pressing Icon for the A button on the Nintendo Switch. Edited version of the icon by ARMS Institute user PleasePleasePepper, released under CC-BY-SA 4.0. repeatedly for continued plucking is no longer required. Simply holding the button while plucking will have leaders continue until the button is released or no more sprouts are left.
  • While the player is holding Icon for the A button on the Nintendo Switch. Edited version of the icon by ARMS Institute user PleasePleasePepper, released under CC-BY-SA 4.0. to hold a Pikmin, they can now press Icon for the B button on the Nintendo Switch. Edited version of the icon by ARMS Institute user PleasePleasePepper, released under CC-BY-SA 4.0. to release the Pikmin.
  • Holding Icon for the Y Button on the Nintendo Switch. Edited version of the icon by ARMS Institute user PleasePleasePepper, released under CC-BY-SA 4.0. on the Onion menu now allows the player to change the numbers by 10 Pikmin at a time, as with Pikmin 3 Deluxe onward.

Aesthetic[edit]

  • The gameplay and UI are now rendered at a higher resolution.
    • Pre-rendered cutscenes appear to have been re-rendered and then AI upscaled.[2][3]
  • The Nintendo logo lasts longer.
  • The number of Pikmin currently holding onto an object is now on the top half of the carry number, like to all Pikmin games with carry numbers since Pikmin 3.
  • All references to the controls have been updated to reflect the new control scheme.

Audio[edit]

  • As with the GameCube game, all sound effects play from one audio source.

Other[edit]

  • The copyright on the title screens has been changed to "© Nintendo".
  • Attraction mode has been completely removed. When attraction mode should play, the title screen is just reloaded.
  • Despite being based off of the New Play Control! versions, the GameCube cursor is reused. The trail from the New Play Control! versions' cursor was left unchanged, meaning that it no longer connects to the cursor.

Other information[edit]

  • Game size: 2.13 GB.
  • Supported play modes: TV (1 or 2 players), tabletop (1 or 2 players), and handheld (1 player).
  • Supported controllers: two Joy-Cons, and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
  • Supports cloud save data.
