The Common Glowcap is a luminescent mushroom and is used as scenery in The Forest Navel in Pikmin, as well as multiple caves in Pikmin 2. As scenery, the Glowcap does not change gameplay at all, unlike its supposed 'relative', the Glowstem, which may cause Bomb Rocks to fall upon contact with it. It does, however, affect gameplay in Pikmin 3, and lights up dark areas when it makes contact with anything.

Pikmin Adventure

In the Nintendo Land attraction Pikmin Adventure, Common Glowcaps are referred to by Monita as Glowing Mushrooms. In this game, they serve a very useful purpose, and grant illumination around a player who makes contact with it. This comes in handy in dark cave levels.

Pikmin 3

Common Glowcaps appear in Pikmin 3, and are used to light up dark areas. They appear as tiny "buds" on the cave floor until a Pikmin hits them, or a player walks over them. When this happens, they will pop up out of the ground as a fully-grown glowcap and illuminate the area.
