The Pikmin series currently consists of two games, Pikmin and Pikmin 2 (and their counterparts in the New Play Control! range on the Nintendo Wii), with a third to be released this year. Both games have been scored well by critics, the sequel generally higher than Pikmin. As a matter of fact, amazon.com reviews for Nintendo Selects: Pikmin two were completely five stars for several, several months. Other games that pikmin have physically appeared in, but are not considered a part of the series consist of Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour and NintendoLand. It is currently unknown if the Subspace Emissary from SSBB will act as an important part of the Pikmin series. Pikmin have made appearances in other games, but they are mainly references.  There have been a number of rumours in the past concerning a Pikmin 3 being in production for the Wii U, and on July 15, 2008 at a private conference, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that Pikmin 3 was in production. During E3 2012, Pikmin 3 was officially announced for the Wii U. The total number of sales for the series is approximately 3.78 million [1]. It has now been announced that Pikmin 3 is in production, and previews have been released. At E3 2012, Pikmin 3 was discussed and could be tried out; a challenge mode in which the new leader is to collect fruit with red and the new Rock Pikmin, and the other mode being a boss battle against the Armored Mawdad. The new game in the series will be released August 4th in the US, July 26th in Europe, July 13th in Japan, and Australia's release date is to be announced. The Wii versions of the game have no significant difference other than controls. Most reviews on the controls are biased on which one you used first due to natural habit. Elements from the series also play parts in a number of other Nintendo games, most notably Super Smash Bros. Brawl, in which Captain Olimar is a playable character, as well as a Pikmin stage and multiple music tracks, stickers, and trophies.
