Once, I got to my daughter's birthday party late. She took the present and told me the party was over already, but there would be a makeup one tomorrow. I had to buy a second cake and gift. I got the feeling I was more upset with myself than she was. After all, she did get two birthday presents out of it. If only I could have given her this... Maybe I'd have been off the hook.
