Pikmin 4 Hardmodes

1/4 Pikmin & Pikmin Only

My deployed Pikmin army is 1/4 of my current max. I cannot use Oatchi or items

Rules

  1. My deployed Pikmin army is 1/4 of the Pikmin Limit (5-25).
    1. I must enter a cave with 5-25 Pikmin, but I can still increase my population within the cave (since some caves require me to get new Pikmin while I am underground).
  2. I must avoid using Oatchi or items, when possible.
    1. If I do use Oatchi, it is only for tasks that regular Pikmin can do (like carrying light items).
    2. If I must use Oatchi to progress through a cave (like with clay vases blocking the door), then that is fine.
  3. I cannot buy Oatchi upgrades or items (exceptions must not be able to assist me in combat).
    1. Bombs for "indestructible walls" might be an exception.
Alt Gamemode Rules
  1. Dandori: I cannot get anymore flower pellets if my population surpasses or is at 25. I must keep Oatchi at my base or get him KO'd quickly so he has limited impact.

Results

My fragility and weak army forced me to use hit-and-run tactics frequently. I did have to skip several treasures because they required Oatchi.

Oatchi & Items Only

I avoid using Pikmin.

Rules

  1. Pikmin are to be avoided, when possible.
    1. If I must use Pikmin to progress through a cave (like when I need Ice Pikmin to freeze the water to get to a door), then that is fine.
    2. Pikmin can carry treasures that Oatch is strong enough to carry, since it would be a waste of time otherwise (This means that I can only move items that weigh 3-100 using Pikmin).
    3. Glow Pikmin maybe are allowed.
  2. No Farlic or Onions, when possible.
Alt Gamemode Rules
  1. Try to use Oatch/Items only, and then gradually increase the amount of Pikmin needed to compensate.

Results

Oatchi and I were initially very weak, making the large mobs difficult to kill. I farmed Raw Material to upgrade and stockpile items that I will need.

No Pikmin Deaths & Pacifist

Complete the game with the least amount of kills and Pikmin deaths.

Rules

  1. I must Rewind whenever I lose a Pikmin so that my Pikmin Death Count is always 0.
  2. I must avoid killing, when possible.
    1. Mandatory kills (including bosses) required to progress are an exception.
Alt Gamemode Rules
  1. Same rules, maybe less strictly enforced.

Much of my playthrough relied on me scouting an area before trying to sneak my Pikmin around enemies that I could not kill. I was incapable of moving my base in many locations because most new bases required me to kill the creature that was nesting there. I had to use stunning items or bait enemies with myself in order to distract them while my Pikmin did their tasks. Oatchi was sometimes an issue because he attacks in self-defense, meaning even the supposedly best buddy in the game was sometimes a liability.

Sun-Speckled Terrace was initially restrictive because I could not access the bridges that were blocked by Male Sheargrubs, who attack too fast for my Pikmin to dodge. I discovered that combining Spicy Spray with an Ice Rock-Bomb was enough to dodge them.

I discovered that Bernard allows me to skip night missions. I want to go back to them later once I stockpile my stun items, but this was my solution for the early game. However, I also discovered that it is mandatory to kill the mobs that block the new base sites in order to unlock more night missions, so I decided to do that after I did everything else possible for those regions.
