The '''Pikmin series''' currently consists of two games, [[Pikmin (game)|Pikmin]] and [[Pikmin 2]] (and their counterparts in the [[New Play Control!]] range on the [[Nintendo Wii]]), with a [[Pikmin 3|third]] in production. Both games have been scored well by critics, the sequel generally higher than Pikmin. There have been a number of rumours in the past concerning a Pikmin 3 being in production for the WiiU, and on July 15, 2008 at a private conference, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that Pikmin 3 is in production. During E3 2012, Pikmin 3 was officially announced for the Wii U. The total number of sales for the series is approximately 3.70 million[http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=pikmin]. It has now been announced that Pikmin 3 is in production, and previews have been realesed. At E3 2012, Pikmin 3 was discussed and could be tried out; [[Challenge Mode (Pikmin 3)|a challenge mode]] in which the new leader is to collect fruit with red and the new [[rock Pikmin]] , and the other mode being a boss battle against the [[Armored Mawdad]]. The new game in the series will be released sometime in spring 2013.

Elements from the series also play parts in a number of [[Pikmin in other media|other Nintendo games]], most notably ''[[Super Smash Bros. Brawl]]'', in which "Olimar & Pikmin" is a playable character, as well as a Pikmin stage and multiple soundtracks and trophies.
