The word "doodle" means "to draw aimlessly". Its name could refer to the real life insect called the doodlebug, which is the larval stage of the [[wikipedia:Antlion|antlion]]. This doodlebug gets its name by the erratic patterns it runs in when looking for a place to burrow, drawing "doodles" on the sand as it goes. Its Japanese name is {{j|オナラムシ|Onara Mushi}}, which literally translates to "Fart Bug", because of its flatulence. Its scientific name is ''pilli flatularum'', with ''pilli'' being the genus name used on the [[flint beetle family]], and being close to the Latin word ''pili'' ("pikes"). This word was possibly chosen because primitive pikes were made using flint stones, which connects to the Flint Beetle family name.
