In any area, there are 20 Pikmin to find, although some new ones will be born from previous spawn locations (rocks, piles of leafs, etc.) if some of the player's Pikmin die, so that the player doesn't get stuck without Pikmin. If the player finds all of the Pikmin in the area and doesn't let a single one die, they will be awarded with a golden Pikmin badge on top of the area's icon on the area selection screen.
