It has the same morphology of the [[Iridescent Flint Beetle]], except it is coated with dirt and has small flies hovering around it, giving it a more repugnant appearance. Doodlebugs only appear in the later caves of the game. Sublevel one in [[Frontier cavern|Frontier Cavern]] contains three doodlebugs, thus making it a good sublevel to stock up on sprays, and in [[Challenge mode|Challenge Mode]], they can even drop treasure.

The first direct hit with a [[Pikmin]] causes it to drop 3 drops of [[Nectar]], then the next 2 drop 1 [[Ultra Bitter Spray|Ultra Bitter Drop]] each.

Captains cannot harm this creature, it being required to have pikmin with you to flip it over. However, it is possible to defeat a Doodlebug. To do this it must be sprayed with ultra bitter spray, and it can be attacked and defeated.
