Glitches in Pikmin 2: Difference between revisions

(Cleaned up the hole glitch. This needs more research, and will be expanded and improved further later on. Also, removed the other glitch because it's just the off-camera limbo. Either way, that off-camera mechanic will be expanded on Camera soon.)

| howto = Petrify the Volatile Dweevil on the Piklopedia. Right before it breaks free, petrify it again. If you did it correctly, only the bomb-rock on its back should've been petrified. An easy way to ensure the correct timing is to mash when the creature is about to break free, and quickly stop the second it does. If you petrify it in this state, the creature itself will be turned into stone, but the bomb-rock will break free.

| explanation = The bomb-rock and the creature must count as two different objects. They also react to the petrification at different times. With the right timing, their petrifications can be desynchronized.

Hole on the edge
{{ glitch | reproducibility = Low | danger = Depends | p2 = ? | npcp2 = Yes | image = Cave hole edge glitch.png | video = | demonstration =
| effects = Causes the cave model to spawn on the edge of the platform, as shown in the image.
| howto = Go to the Subterranean Complex and go to sublevel 3. This is hypothesized to be possible in other sublevels too, but is easier to understand here due to the zig-zag part as shown in the image. Simply restart the sublevel until the glitch appears.
| notes = If you walk into the hole, you can fall off. You'll respawn elsewhere, but Pikmin that follow you will die.
| normal = Normally, the cave model should spawn in a dead end, or at least far away from the edge.

| howto = In 2-Player Battle, if the Onion is on a ledge and if a Swooping Snitchbug throws a Pikmin at the very edge of the ledge, the Pikmin seed underground will be visible (it looks like it does when it pops out, only with a longer stem). If you try to pull it out, the bottom will "magically" form a Pikmin body, and the Pikmin will fall off of the ledge.

| explanation = The model for a Pikmin sprout doesn't need to be the same as a full Pikmin, as its lower half is never shown. To make sure that a captain can stretch out a Pikmin's stem without showing the Pikmin, for aesthetic purposes, a Pikmin's stem while underground is modeled as being much taller than normal.

Cave Spawn in Edge of Platform
{{ glitch | reproducibility = Low | danger = Harmful | p2 = ? | npcp2 = Yes | image = Pikipedia_article.png | video = | caption = Cave model protruding from platform | demonstration =
| effects = The glitch causes the cave model to spawn in the edge of the platform as shown in the image.
| howto = Go to the Subterranean Complex and go to Sublevel 3. This is hypothesized to be possible in other sublevels also, but is easier to understand happening in this sublevel due to the zig-zag part as shown in the image. Simply restart the sublevel until the glitch appears. I will make a link to the video I made with it.
| notes = Walking over the cave may do many things. The only two supported things that may happen are the deaths of your pikmin squad if they are following you, and the reappearing of the captains at the ship if they both fall of while linked. There are many ideas of what might also happen if researched more: Namely, the captains and/or Pikmin getting stick between the cave model and the edge of the platform and possibly being pushed through the platform. It is also hypothesized that if one switched captains while falling it may have the same effect as the dweevil-falling-into-the-abyss-with-captain(s) glitch.
| normal = Normally, the cave model should spawn in a dead end or sometimes near the border of a platform.
| explanation = The cave model usually spawns randomly, but there must have been a gap in the code somewhere because the model came into a part of the edge it was not supposed to be in. The weird shaped platform did not help.

Captains but not Enemies by bomb rocks
{{ glitch | reproducibility = Medium | danger = Harmful | p1 = ? | npcp1 = ? | p2 = Yes | npcp2 = Yes | image = | video = | caption = | demonstration =
| effects = Basically, the glitch is that if you are not looking toward the enemy, hazard, or in this case, a bomb rock, that virtually nothing will happen. Ever turned around to see the Spotty Bulbear in exactly the same place as before when it's supposed to roam? The same concept can be applied to hazards and bomb rocks. The bomb rocks may explode however when not facing them due to the emission of a sound. However, it is peculiar because it does not hurt enemies but only captains and mainly pikmin.
| prerequisites = have the Five-Man Napsack
| howto = The easiest way to achieve this glitch is to go to sublevel 6 of the Subterranean Complex and be picked up by a dweevil in the hazardous area near the center and stay on that captain long enough for a Careening Dirigibug to drop a bomb rock. Then switch to the other captain and watch as your original captain's life meter goes down and the bomb rock emits its noise.
| notes = In Pikmin 1(New Play Control or original) it may also be possible to achieve this glitch if timed well. However, it might be necessary to be a large distance from the explosion, as shown in the video, by changing captains at the last second. As Pikmin 1 does not have multiple captains, this may be very hard to achieve.
| normal = Normally, if facing the way of the bomb rock, it will explode and kill(or hurt) any enemies or pikmin and/or hurt captains.
| explanation = The cause is not yet quite known to me, but it may be due to lack of camera in that area, causing a lack of screen clearing. Another idea is that due to being off-screen, the invulnerability of the Careening Dirigibugs nearby may extend to the dweevil.
