I had a glitch with this in the Piklopedia. I turned them to stone as one was falling off of the "flowerpot" in the Awakening Wood. :That sounds like the poor thing suffered from fall damage. But... that's impossible... There is no fall damage in the Pikmin series. Maybe that's a special rule that only happens to petrified creatures?
