Currently, clicking on the featured image takes you to an article about the subject of the image, rather than the image's file page. There are advantages and disadvantages to doing this. It has the benefit of taking readers to a place where they can read more about what's shown in the image if they're interested. But in almost all cases, the article linked by the image is also linked in the caption, and it prevents readers from seeing a higher-resolution version of the image.
