A demo for Pikmin 3 was released following the release of the [[Pikmin Short Movies]], as a way for new fans to try out the series. In the demo, the player can play up until they defeat the [[Armored Mawdad]] in Story mode, at which point the game will prompt the player to buy the full version. The first 5 stages of ''Collect treasure!'' in [[Mission Mode]] are also available. ''Battle enemies!'' remains inaccessible. In ''Defeat bosses!'', only the Armored Mawdad can be challenged.
