Wait a minute[edit]

When did the Mockiwi has a big resemblance with a Kiwi? Well, in that case it may be based on a Kiwi but i don't think it has a resemblance with that bird, like, i don't know what types of Kiwi were found but usually if i'm not wrong their beaks are more long not like of a duck. – Icon for the White Pikmin, from Pikmin 4's Piklopedia. The "kiwi" thing is probably referring to its seeming lack of wings. It's not a "big resemblance", but it is a resemblance. 2 B (talk) 18:10, August 4, 2023 (EDT)

About the English naming...[edit]

While I won't deny the possibility of the mock in Mockiwi alluding to its resemblance of a kiwi, a part of me feels that the "Mock" could also be taken from the real life Mockingbird The preceding unsigned comment was added by Idiotic Catrabbid • (talk) • (contribs)

Plural name[edit]

An edit to this article has changed the plural form of this enemy's name from "Mockiwis" to "Mockiwi", with the reason that the plural name of the real-world kiwi is also "kiwi", so therefore the plural name of the Mockiwi can be assumed to be "Mockiwi". I'm not sure whether this term should be used as the plural name of this enemy on the wiki. The reasoning makes sense, but it also results in a less intuitive plural form. The term "Mockiwis" is already used in several articles, and adding an S is the intuitive way to make the word "Mockiwi" plural following standard English rules. Without in-game text confirming that the plural form of the name is the same as the singular form (like there is for Pikmin, Spectralids, and Mamuta), I'm not sure whether the wiki should be making a plural form of the name this way. — Soprano(talk) 10:33, April 26, 2026 (UTC)

I'd say it's best to stick to standard grammar convention unless official text specifically points against that. It just seems far more natural, and also less speculative. -Gulliblepikmin 11:29, April 26, 2026 (UTC)
The kiwi point does make sense, but in an effort to be consistent, we should stick to what all the other places use and use the s. Plus, we can't say how it is for sure so we have to assume the default. — {EspyoT} 11:36, May 17, 2026 (UTC)
Something I embarrassingly didn't notice while writing my original comment is that the article already used the "Mockiwi" plural before that edit, in sections of the article other than the introduction. This plural form has been used since early versions of the article, showing that it is an intuitive plural form. So we need to decide which plural form is better to use on the wiki. Either we need to change the plural form in this article to match other articles, or change the plural form in other articles to match this article. — Soprano(talk) 09:22, July 7, 2026 (UTC)
