Some parts of p2 were only available before the final release, and have been changed or removed for the final version. This information is known from different sources, like gameplay videos or screenshots of earlier versions of the game. Although the exact versions are not known, they are commonly called "beta", "alpha", or "pre-alpha" versions by fans, depending on how complete the game looks to be.

This Pikmin fansite created by a internet user known as ninjailookupto has hotlinked images from IGN.com. The IGN article with the images has not been found yet, so it was likely deleted.
Most of these screenshots are of the beginning movie, with the rest being screenshots of the game. It is likely that the version shown here is the January 2004 Japanese Demo Disk version.
Note that ninjailookupto mentions that there are 45 images, yet there are only 43, not counting the boxart.

Differences from the final game that can be noted are:
* The scale puzzle to the Massage Girdle is just two seesaw blocks instead of four.
* There is a Ranging Bloyster to the left of where the Massage Girdle would be located. This was also seen in the January 2004 Japanese Demo Disk
* The Chocolate Cushion could be found in a garden-themed cave sublevel.
* Yellow Dwarf Bulborbs are present in a garden-themed cave sublevel. This is not the same sublevel as the one with the Chocolate Cushion, since that is found on sublevel 2 whereas this screenshot was taken on sublevel 1.
* Spiderworts are in the open plain in the Awakening Wood. Again, these changes were also seen in the January 2004 Japanese Demo Disk footage.
