They demonstrate a degree of sexual dimorphism not at all uncommon to insects; the [[Male Sheargrub|males]] of the species have a dark purple shell and strong chewing mouthparts. Pikmin are their favorite food, though they will attack captains as well. The [[Female Sheargrub|females]] are much lighter in color, and their mandibles are significantly smaller.
