Locations

Plot

Captain Olimar, exausted from working hard, goes on vacation only to get hit by an asteroid and land on the mysterious planet of the Pikmin. His ship, the S.S. Dolphin is now an absolute wreck, but on the way he meets up with the Pikmin. With the help from the Pikmin, Olimar soon has the hope to recover the rocket parts he needs and get back home. But olimar soon finds out that the planet contains oxygen, an element incredibly deadly to the planet of Hocotate and its people. Olimar has only 30 days before complete battery failure. On his way he meets the Yellow Pikmin and eventualy the Blue Pikmin along with indigenous creatures such as the Bulborbs.

Gameplay

Pikmin is a 3-D game that gives you control of Captain Olimar, who is followed in turn by pikmin whom he directs. The whole point of the game is to find, capture, and collect the various (30) ship parts in under a thirty-day yield. Each day is approximately 15 minutes. During the approach of nightfall, a message is issued that you need to gather up all of your Pikmin and get them ready to leave for the day, for if they aren't rounded up, nocturnal predators, like the Red Bulborb, will give them a very untimely death.

In Pikmin, you will face many obstacles in order to secure the desired part. This must be done with care as many obstacles are hazards such as water, fire, and explosions or time consumers like walls, bridges, and other hazards. Even the various creatures of the planet can hinder the progress of your Pikmin. In Pikmin you can have up to 100 pikmin at any given time and no more can be brought out under any circumstances.

The Pikmin

Pikmin are the plant/animal hybrids that were discovered by Olimar. They will willingly, but for reasons unknown, follow him and his orders. Each Pikmin color has special weaknesses and strengths, and all three Pikmin must be used in order to collect all of the missing ship parts. The Pikmin, to us, are very short creatures, about an inch in height, with few clues of their physical elements. All Pikmin have the basic appearances, a head, eyes, a slim torso, two feet, and two arms; and all three pikmin are slender and very thin and fragile bodied, thus making it apparent that they should be protected efficiently. Each Pikmin also has its own special body features, the Red Pikmin have long pointy noses, the Yellow Pkmin have large sail-like ears, and the Blue Pikmin have not mouths, but gills, allowing them to survive and live in water.
