The '''Bogswallow''' ({{j|ヌマススリ|Numa Susuri|Swamp Sipper}}) is a {{w|lamprey}}-like [[enemy]] in {{p4}}. They hide imperceptibly within pits of [[mud]], emerging when prey is nearby to inhale them. [[Oatchi]] is too heavy to be sucked in, but the [[rookie Rescue Officer]] may be sucked in and swallowed if they get too close, unless they possess the [[Brace Boots]].

They are primarily encountered in ''Pikmin 4'''s final [[area]], the [[Primordial Thicket]], as well as [[The Mud Pit]] dungeon.

== Behavior ==

The Bogswallow hides under the mud until a captain, Oatchi, or the Pikmin comes close to the mud puddle or goes into the mud. It then comes out of the ground and starts vacuuming Pikmin. Once it has captured 5 Pikmin, it will stop vacuuming and eat the Pikmin, though it can capture more if they were close enough when it stopped vacuuming. When it's vacuuming, nearby objects such as treasures or corpses will also get sucked in if they are nearby, but they won't get eaten. Smaller objects, on the other hand, such as Raw Materials or Bomb-Rocks, can get sucked in. If they do, the Bogswallow stops vacuuming and eats it along any Pikmin it sucked in. This happens with the player too if they do not have the [[Brace Boots]], which upon getting captured, it will stop vacuuming and spit back out the player immediately, though any captured Pikmin will get eaten still. Once it eats whatever it sucked in, it begins vacuuming again or hides back under the mud if the Pikmin are out of range. If it has any Pikmin attacking it, it will fling them forward and begin vacuuming again. When defeated, its body floats in the mud a little, letting Winged Pikmin carry it.

==Appearance==
The Bogswallow's colors consist of a mix of orange and yellow, and brown. It has a large mouth with puckered red lips, similar to the Cannon Beetle Larvae. Its body appears to be segmented, like the Emperor Bulblax. Its fins are akin to the Pricklepuff. Behind its mouth are six green eyes, and when killed, it is shown to have a spiked tail.

**There are 4 Bogswallows in the area. One of them is in the mud next to the third base, The Maple Bridge, and guards the [[Faux Fishy]]. Two of them guard the entrance [[Cavern for a King]] as well as the two [[Burgeoning Spiderwort]]s. The last one is in the large mud pit with [[Muckerskate]]s and the [[Beckoning Mannequin]] at the east side of the map.

**Two Bogswallows inhabit this sublevel. On is on the west side of the staring base and it drops a [[Portable Sunset]] when defeated. The last one is guarding the second base near the [[Flarlic]] and [[clay bridge]].

== Strategy ==

Charging a large amount of Winged Pikmin is usually the easiest and safest way to kill a Bogswallow. You can also throw a bomb rock at its mouth if it starts to vacuum up Pikmin, causing it to swallow the bomb and die instantly. However, the best way to deal with a Bogswallow is to use Ice Pikmin to freeze the muddy lake they reside. This makes them to be unable to come out of the mud and the ones that do will be frozen, making it easy to kill them. Another good strategy is baiting the creature with a single Purple Pikmin, as they are immune to its vacuuming effects. While it's attempting to suck it up, the player can toss a bomb rock into its mouth to instantly kill it.
