In Korean releases of the games, every entry in Piklopedia has a "scientific" name (Korean: 학명 hangmyeong) but it is rather similar to the Japanese name (Japanese: 和名 wamei) seen in Japanese version.

For example, Red Pikmin's Korean names are:

• Name (이름 ireum): 빨강피크민 ppalgang pikeumin
• "Scientific" name (학명 hangmyeong): 붉은피크민 bulgeun pikeumin

So it would be fine if it is written in the Naming section of wiki page, under the name of something like "Korean name".

This makes me wonder what the best way to document scientific names in different languages is. Currently the wiki documents the scientific name in Latin script and the Japanese scientific name, but these aren't the only scientific names. I assume the Latin script scientific name is the same in all languages that use the Latin script, but Pikmin 4 adds words in brackets to some scientific names, and these words are translated into different languages. It would be possible to document the Korean scientific names in a row in Template:Naming, but this would result in the Korean scientific name being above the Korean common name, unlike the Japanese scientific name and the Latin script scientific name in the English localization, which are below the common names in English and Japanese. I think Korean scientific names should be documented, but I'm not sure what the best way to do this would be. — Soprano_(talk) 05:56, August 31, 2025 (EDT)

I think one way to handle this would be with a second table in the "Names in other languages" sections of creatures, for the scientific name and its equivalents in other languages. In most cases, this would mean having rows for Japanese, Korean and Chinese, though rows for other languages could be included in some cases, such as names with notes in parenthesis (eg. "Amphicaris frondiferorum (larva)"), or the rare names that are different between languages (eg. "Oculus longolingua" vs "Oculus longilengua"). In most cases, the English version's scientific name is also used for all languages that use the Latin script. I think that would be a good solution. If there was a second table for scientific names, the Japanese scientific name and Latin script scientific name could be removed from the first part of the Naming section, so that they wouldn't be listed twice, though this would result in the Latin script scientific name being listed in a less prominent place than it probably should be listed. The Japanese common name is listed twice though, so perhaps the Latin script scientific name could be treated similarly, being explained in the first part of the section, and then being listed in the table but not explained. In situations where this name is different between languages that use the Latin script, the table could explain the differences. — Soprano_(talk) 22:57, October 4, 2025 (EDT)
