The '''Mammoth Snootwhacker''' ({{j|オオハナタタキ|Oo Hana Tataki|Large Nose-Knocker}}) is a large {{w|elephant}}-like [[enemy]] in {{p4}}. It is the adult form of the [[Miniature Snootwhacker]], and like its young form, it has thick skin that protects it from most attacks, and has a heavy trunk to [[crush]] any non-[[Rock Pikmin]]. Its attacks pose a greater threat and have a larger radius than the attacks of the Miniature Snootwhacker, given its large size. Unlike its young form, it takes two [[Rush]]es from [[Oatchi]] to damage it, as Rushing it only once will simply stun it instead of exposing its belly, which is its weak point.

== Behavior ==
The Mammoth Snootwhacker will patrol a given area around where it spawns. When a leader or Pikmin enters this area, it will attempt to run at the leader and begin attacking. Its first attack, the sweeping attack, is a long-range movement of its trunk in the area surrounding it, sending Pikmin it hits in every direction. The Snootwhacker telegraphs this attack with a few circular movements of its trunk. This attack will knock the Rescue Officer off of Oatchi, as well as knock both down if they are caught in the swing, but is otherwise non-lethal. After this attack, it will usually try to attack by curling its trunk up before slamming it down on anything directly in front of it. This will [[crush]] anything caught in the attack (except for [[Rock Pikmin]], provided they are on soft ground). If a [[Bomb Rock]] is thrown at a Mammoth Snootwhacker, it will use its trunk to fling the bomb rock back at the player. The player can send Oatchi at the enemy with a Rush, causing it to trip up for a while. If hit with a Rush while in this state, it will be flipped over, exposing its belly. If given enough time in either knocked-down state, it will get back up and immediately use its crushing attack. If the player leaves its patrolling area, the Snootwhacker will go back to normal, patrolling the area as expected.

== Appearance ==
The Mammoth Snootwhacker is a large, green elephant-like creature with a bright red underbelly. It is a larger version of the [[Miniature Snootwhacker]], its younger counterpart. Its color palette and texture resemble that of a watermelon.

== Strategy ==

Much like its miniature version, [[Oatchi]] is required to defeat this creature without items. With Oatchi, Rush down the Snootwhacker from its sides or back to cause it to enter a stunned state. After that, the player has ample time to follow up with another Rush, allowing you to expose its soft underbelly. It will typically flip itself back up after it takes about a third of its health, meaning you will need to repeat this process a few times to defeat the boss. Simply being mindful of if and when it is going to attack, and which attack it will use, is the main key to this fight, and it will give ample time to telegraph its attack and allow the player to position themselves accordingly. Provided that Oatchi's Rush skill is sufficiently upgraded, Oatchi can usually knock down the Snootwhacker before it can even begin to attack the second time around. While it will not appear in an area where it can send Pikmin into more perilous situations in the [[Dream Home]], it will appear near a [[pit]] in [[The White Key]]. The player should also be mindful of where Pikmin end up if they are knocked away, as it can still crush Pikmin with its second attack.

It's also possible to use [[pack|item]]s to beat it. [[Lightning Shock]]s can stun it and knock it over, just like Oatchi's Rush, and [[Ice Blast]]s will freeze it, letting you damage it without knocking it over. However, Bomb Rocks should not be used &ndash; it will simply throw them back at you, likely causing heavy Pikmin losses.

If the player finds the fight with this creature in [[Dream Home]] tedious, or is performing a speedrun, a quick way to defeat this boss in one go is by using [[Ice Pikmin]]. Bring around 20 Ice Pikmin into the cave &ndash; Yellow and Purple Pikmin are recommended but technically not required &ndash; then use an Ultra-Spicy Spray when the boss is in your sights. The spray not only lets you more rapidly charge Oatchi's Rush, but it also increases the amount Ice Pikmin both freeze and damage enemies significantly. If you have a large squad of Pikmin, the boss should be defeated soon after it freezes, since it cannot get up while frozen. If you would rather not use items, around 60 [[Rock Pikmin]] can be brought into the cave. Rock Pikmin deal extra damage when rushed with Oatchi onto frozen enemies, allowing 60 Rock Pikmin to defeat a frozen Snootwhacker in two rushes.
