I've noticed something about our guides for collecting these treasures. Most of them tell the reader that to retrieve the treasure in question, they must throw Pikmin to match its weight. That instruction sounds good in theory, but it probably does more harm than good. Assume that a boss in the overworld drops something that weighs 30 units. You can indeed throw 30 Pikmin one by one, but you can also:
*Send the same number of Pikmin in some faster way than throwing.
**[[Charge]]
**[[Swarm]]
**[[Disband]]
*Throw a smaller number of [[Purple Pikmin]].
*Throw more Pikmin so that they will carry it faster.
*Send [[Oatchi]].
*Any combination of the above, maybe even with [[Extra Hand]] if you want to prove a point.
Pikmin 4 gives the player many options to collect items, most of which are actually more convenient than throwing Pikmin one by one. Our guides nonetheless imply that the latter method is the only one, which risks making the game harder for an inexperienced player who e.g. might think that they can't get a treasure because they only have 20 Pikmin left. For these reasons, I think we should remove the precise instructions to throw Pikmin.
A possible counterpoint to removing the "throw" instruction is that some treasures are guarded by hazards like fire. It's tempting to say something like "throw 20 Red Pikmin" then, but even that can often be circumvented by Glow Pikmin or an upgraded Oatchi. For those cases, I think we should mention the different options even if it gets verbose. On page deletion[edit]

I agree that this is just speculation. It hasn't even been two weeks since the game was officially announced, and we have like what, 4 images for it in total? Heck we don't even know what the game's collectables are going to be. We basically know nothing about it; only that it exists. Burrhead2 (talk) 13:21, September 24, 2022 (EDT)

Yeah, this page should be deleted. -Gulliblepikmin
This user clearly has not read the new game policies. We need to keep an eye on their edits. --Veldhuis94 (talk) 14:56, September 24, 2022 (EDT)

Collection guides[edit]

I've noticed something about our guides for collecting these treasures. Most of them tell the reader that to retrieve the treasure in question, they must throw Pikmin to match its weight. That instruction sounds good in theory, but it probably does more harm than good. Assume that a boss in the overworld drops something that weighs 30 units. You can indeed throw 30 Pikmin one by one, but you can also:

  • Send the same number of Pikmin in some faster way than throwing.
  • Throw a smaller number of Purple Pikmin.
  • Throw more Pikmin so that they will carry it faster.
  • Send Oatchi.
  • Any combination of the above, maybe even with Extra Hand if you want to prove a point.

CortexCPU242 (talk) 08:49, June 13, 2024 (EDT), rephrased 09:34, June 14, 2024 (EDT)

A lot of guides for the Pikmin 2 treasures or Pikmin 3 fruits don't mention how the player should collect it and instead say something like have your Pikmin carry it or have (blank amount of) Pikmin retrieve it. Maybe it's best to word it like that instead. Eg. Once all nearby enemies are defeated, have 7 Pikmin carry the treasure instead of you must throw 7 Pikmin at it. Chazmatron (talk) 20:04, June 13, 2024 (BST)
That still doesn't address the option of moving the treasure with Oatchi, which is more efficient in many cases. CortexCPU242 (talk) 04:03, June 14, 2024 (EDT)
I think "carry the treasure to the S.S. Beagle" is a good wording. It lets the reader decide how to carry it, and the weight is already mentioned in the infobox. — Soprano(talk) 05:30, June 14, 2024 (EDT)
That sounds good, but I don't think we should write it on every guide. That's what you do to collect every treasure after all, whether it's above or below ground. To point to Pikmin 2 and 3 again, most of our guides for collecting things in those games don't mention the Hocotate ship or the S.S. Drake by name. CortexCPU242 (talk) 09:34, June 14, 2024 (EDT)
