Odd, I couldn't find a definition for that at all. Some results include purple-striped, nail, rivet, club, and key. Even from a Romantic language standpoint the only thing that comes to mind is key. I think the devs just chose this because it sounded good.

Clavo (the family genus) is probably a take on the Latin word clav (which means to enclose, to comprise, to fit together or to work together), with enclose referring to how the members of the family enclose their prey in webs, and to comprise/fit together referring to how the only member of the family, the Arachnode, looks like it is comprised of multiple smaller pieces.
