:I think this needs to be discussed better. But in general, I'd say the best way to tackle this is to give a very rough list of how many Pikmin of each type the player should bring. By this I mean that it shouldn't say exactly 50 Reds, 12 Blues, etc., but rather, something like "between 10 and 20 Yellows, 20 Blues just for the sake of carrying treasure X, and then fill the rest of the party with White Pikmin.
