Who chose the featured image? From what I know of I saw no votings or anything that to what the featured image should be. Perhaps we should create a Forum or a talk for voting featured images, selected/all users could choose an image of their choice, along with the reasons for their choice and a support, oppose and comments section for possible voting. The only bad possibility with that is that other users may dissagree with (not being offensive) the featured image you picked. You could let other users have their say '''before''' you pick an image.
