The '''mawdad family''' is a family of centipede-like creatures introduced in {{p3}}, although the family went unclassified until {{p3d}}. It contains only one member, the [[Armored Mawdad]], which the family is named after. Members belong to the ''tuberclipeum'' genus.

Armored Mawdad is the first boss in ''[[Pikmin 3]]'', and the boss of the [[Garden of Hope]]. It is a massive beast with a multitude of small gecko-like legs, a large head, yellow eyes, a bluish-green underbelly, a gaping mouth, and large curved mandibles. The boss crawls about and is able to climb up the sides of walls as a means of fleeing. Its shell is [[crystal]] and can be broken by [[Rock Pikmin]] to expose the soft skin underneath.

The family name ''mawdad'' contains ''maw'', a word used to describe the thick jaws of a predator, which members posses. The ''dad'' part may be an indication of authority.

The family genus, ''tuberclipeum'', includes the word "tuber". This is because {{w|potato}}es are a type of tuber, in reference to the Japanese name of the [[Armored Mawdad]], which contains the word "potato".
