'''''Pikmin 1''''' is a port of the original {{p1}} to the [[Nintendo Switch]], released in 2023. It is based on {{npcp1}}; the port of ''Pikmin'' to the [[Wii]], and features a number of changes to it compared to past releases.

A bundle of this game and the [[Pikmin 2 (Nintendo Switch)|Nintendo Switch port of ''Pikmin 2'']] was also released as ''[[Pikmin 1+2]]''.

== Changes ==
This port is built off of the European version of ''New Play Control! Pikmin'', meaning that unless stated otherwise, all changes from that version also apply to this game. On top of that and the changes common to both this game and the Nintendo Switch port of ''Pikmin 2'', which are listed [[Pikmin 1+2#Common changes|here]], the following additional changes exist.

*The whistle works like it does in other ''Pikmin'' games, always calling Pikmin back so long as they enter its radius, rather than only calling them back the moment when either the whistle grows to full size or when it's cancelled early, whichever happens first.

* The game can no longer be run in 4:3.
* The motion blur-like {{w|Ghosting (television)|ghosting}} effect has been removed.
* The red effect upon Olimar taking damage is displaced upwards and slightly squished vertically, leading the effect to repeat its bottommost row of pixels when drawing itself on the bottom third of the screen.
* The [[Emperor Bulblax]]'s shadow now consistently shows up.
* [[The Distant Spring]]'s lighting is darker, both in its normal and [[Challenge Mode (Pikmin)|Challenge Mode]] variations.

*Part of the [[Mamuta]]'s [[Olimar's voyage log#Mamuta|voyage log entry]] has been changed from the creature's "mighty open-handed smack" reminding Olimar of when [[Olimar's wife|his wife]] tried to get a mosquito on his head, only to accidentally miss and smack him, to Olimar having feared that the attack would've cracked his helmet open.
*The [[Olimar's voyage log##27|voyage log entry]] that appears if the player has done nothing of interest for 27 days straight after day 1 was changed to match with [[Olimar's voyage log#Unknown #2|the Japanese version of that entry]].

* The game is called ''Pikmin 1'', rather than just ''Pikmin''.
* The [[credits]] have received several changes:
** The credits themselves are primarily made up of the staff that helped develop the Nintendo Switch version. After the special thanks, a few of the staff members who developed the original [[Nintendo GameCube]] version of ''Pikmin'' are credited, alongside their roles. The rest of the development team members are credited as a collective under a "Based on the Work of the Original Development Staff" that appears as a header before the credited original staff members.
** All in-game footage has been re-recorded using the Nintendo Switch version.
** The credits appear and disappear closer to the planet's edge.
** The base of just the planet and the stars appears to have been upscaled.
* The [[enemy reel]] has received several changes:
** All of the gameplay has been re-recorded, now being more accurate to the game's actual gameplay.
** A different font is used, and all of the text is center-aligned.
** The enemy names and descriptions each fade in, rather than the text appearing character by character in small white-orange flashes in like the original.
** The [[Swooping Snitchbug]] is placed correctly in the reel's alphabetical order.
** When the gameplay footage pauses to show information about the creature, a heavy smear quickly appears over the parts of the footage not occupied by the creature, instead of a dark filter and light smear closing in around the creature in a circle.
** Pikmin that appear to use the [[Pikmin Short Movies|''Pikmin'' Short Movies]] models periodically make brief appearances on and around the video's border throughout the enemy reel.
*The "THE HAPPY END" screen has received several changes: 
** Different renders are used for Olimar and the Pikmin.
** The Pikmin flowers that make up the "THE END" text look different.
** The "HAPPY" text is completely different, with it using a different font, is more pink, and is lacking outline. It also animates differently, popping in from nowhere in a low [[frame]]rate fashion and wiggling in place until the screen is left. The original text fades in, with its individual letters each shaking around in a small area before eventually growing still.

== History ==
This port was revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation on {{date|21|June|2023}},{{cite youtube|mrZtzGRAKrM|of the Nintendo Direct on {{date|21|June|2023}}}} alongside [[Pikmin 2 (Nintendo Switch)|a port of ''Pikmin 2'']]. Both were released digitally on the eShop immediately after the presentation concluded, either individually or as a bundle called ''[[Pikmin 1+2]]''. This bundle received a physical release in North America, Europe, and Japan on {{date|22|September|2023}}.

On {{date|21|September|2023}}, the game received an [[Update#List of Pikmin 1 (Nintendo Switch) updates|update]], which added support for more languages and made other changes.
