Talk:Pikmin 1 (Nintendo Switch)

Should we create an icon of this game for the User Box? and if we do, what's it gonna look like?

Renaming proposal[edit]
A renaming proposal was placed on this page, proposing to rename it to "Pikmin 1", with the reason that there is no other article with that title. I don't think this should be done. While this article doesn't technically need to have "(Nintendo Switch)" in its title, it's a good idea for the title to have this in my opinion. People searching for "Pikmin 1" are almost certainly looking for information about the game in general (which is documented in the Pikmin (game) article), rather than information about the Nintendo Switch port (which is documented in this article). So in my opinion, it makes more sense for "Pikmin 1" to redirect to "Pikmin (game)" and for that article to have a notice at the top linking to this article, than for this article to be called "Pikmin 1" and have a notice at the top linking to "Pikmin (game)". — Soprano(talk) 22:52, September 27, 2025 (EDT)
- Now that the remaining proposal has been re-added, I'll give my opinion. It's pretty much what's been said by Soprano. The main reason for the name is to do with navigation, and it also looks nice matching how Pikmin 2 (Nintendo Switch) does it. I've seen multiple people refer to the first Pikmin game as "Pikmin 1", so renaming this article would likely make navigating a bit awkward to some. I think it's fine as it. – Chazmatron, signing off! (TALK) 20:20, 28 October, 2025 (GMT)
- My renaming proposal recognizes that people call the original Pikmin 1; that redirect will remain, this is irrelevant to the main argument which is that the (Nintendo Switch) addition is misleading, so it should be moved to Pikmin 1 (game). 196.157.103.113 16:39, October 28, 2025 (EDT)
- The thing people call "Pikmin 1" on GameCube is also a game. using that identifier would be more misleading.--PopitTart (talk) 17:02, October 28, 2025 (EDT)
- I agree. "Pikmin 1 (game)" would be an ambiguous title, while "Pikmin 1 (Nintendo Switch)" is not ambiguous. — Soprano(talk) 04:49, October 29, 2025 (EDT)
- Something else I'll note is that while the naming situation with this game is technically different to the naming situation with Pikmin 2 (Nintendo Switch), it's important to consider what makes the wiki easier to navigate. This game and the Nintendo Switch port of Pikmin 2 both have the same relationship to the original versions of each game, so it makes sense for these articles to have titles in the same format. It would be confusing if they were named in different ways. (A related note is that since the wiki prioritizes the US version of the games, it could be argued that the New Play Control! Pikmin 2 article should be renamed to "Pikmin 2 (Wii)", because in the US, the game wasn't released with the New Play Control! branding and was only released with the name "Pikmin 2". But considering that the name "New Play Control! Pikmin 2" has been used in other regions, and that using this title means the article is named in the same way as the New Play Control! Pikmin article (that game was released with that name in the US), it makes sense for the article to have this title.) — Soprano(talk) 04:47, October 30, 2025 (EDT)

- The name "Pikmin 1" is a vague catch-all term that could apply to all versions of the first Pikmin game. Also, this isn't the only time the first Pikmin game's been referred to as "Pikmin 1", as seen in Merchandise/Games. -Gulliblepikmin 00:21, October 29, 2025 (EDT)
- The only reason this article is even called "Pikmin 1 (Nintendo Switch)" and not "Pikmin (Nintendo Switch)" is cause that's how Nintendo refers to the rerelease (unlike, say, New Play Control! Pikmin). The "(Nintendo Switch)" clarification would be in there regardless. I get that the argument is the original is not being called "Pikmin 1" but this rerelease is, but this is clearly a retrospective retitle to avoid confusion on their part, clarifying it's the first game (especially when it's being bundled with the second, "1+2" is far more straight forward than "Pikmin+2").--Bossclips (talk) 10:12, October 29, 2025 (EDT)
- Pikmin and Pikmin 1 are two distinct names and titles and it does not hurt to add the parenthesis for the latter. Not having any distinction between both titles because they are similar in title does hurt the navigation. Pikmin 1 is called this for Pikmin's (game) Switch port for merely distinction in name, but it's still called Pikmin 1 as the title regardless and we should at least say what platform it is from. Having both Pikmin (game) and Pikmin 1 (game) is just absolutely confusing and it will not make the Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 2 (Nintendo Switch) distinction consistent.
