Australian region[edit]

So... what exactly is it you need from Australia? I've got all three Australian releases... I'm just not sure what the todo template is asking. Phineas81707 (talk) 02:07, 12 November 2015 (EST)

The question is mostly to answer "WHEN are the Australian versions made? After the European ones? Between the American and European ones? etc.". It's kind of a dumb question, come to think of it. — {EspyoT} 05:49, 12 November 2015 (EST)
I haven't put it underneath a super-tight eye often, but comparing the notes I've seen for European scripts on this wiki (and wikis for other games) and the notes I see in game seem to demonstrate that the Australian and European scripts are identical. For what it's worth, I don't recognise many, if any, of the brands in Pikmin 2. And there's also the todo on "colour encoding"... I'd just be fine knowing what that means. Just asking if Australia TVs use PAL encoding, NTSC, etc. — {EspyoT} 11:37, 15 November 2015 (EST)

Formalised this now. In addition to my edit notes about the European model number, the New Play Control! games state that the games are for distribution in Australia and New Zealand only, while all claim to be distributed by Nintendo Australia (Pty Ltd). However, I'll have to investigate the cover art thing a little bit. Phineas81707 (talk) 01:36, 25 April 2017 (EDT)

Split proposal[edit]

I propose that we split this article in two: one describing the gameplay differences between the 3 regional versions of Pikmin and Pikmin 2, and one describing the text differences between languages the games are available in. The reason is that these are quite different things. Gameplay differences actually affect how the game is played, and this includes things like different treasure locations, treasure designs, weights, Poko values, and bug fixes. Language differences include all things which only involve text, such as treasure names, item descriptions, and dialog, and these only affect the information you read in the game, rather than what you do in the game. The reason why combining the two is bad in my opinion is that it is an English-centric way of looking at things, as it places text differences between the American English and British English localizations at the same importance of treasure differences between the US and European versions, ignoring the existence of the French and Spanish and German and Italian localizations, which would have comparable differences in text meaning. I understand that as an English-language wiki it's hard for Pikipedia to have good coverage of the differences in meaning between localizations in different languages, but it's worth working towards, and making a distinction between these kinds of regional differences is a good step towards that. Splitting this article would mean that the article on gameplay differences would only cover Pikmin and Pikmin 2 and the three versions of each, while the article on text differences would cover all the games and discuss all the languages each one is available in. I'm not sure what the articles should be called though. What do you think? — Soprano(talk) 03:33, May 27, 2023 (EDT)

I have to agree there, It'd make more sense to split the article the way you described. As for how to split this article, the best that I can come up with is splitting the current region article into two other articles called "Regional gameplay differences" and "Regional text differences", and then turning this article into a disambiguation for the split region articles. -Gulliblepikmin 07:45, December 28, 2023 (EST)

I think it would help clear things up, as well as make the articles breath a bit more easily, especially with the potential of merging articles in the future. Should Pikmin 3 also be included, since for sure we have documented Text Differences? --JPM (talk) 01:10, March 4, 2024 (EST)

Pikmin 3 would be included in the article about text differences, as would all games. The regional gameplay differences would just be for Pikmin and Pikmin 2. Though, now that the Switch ports exist, this complicates things a bit, considering they use the American versions in all regions. — Soprano(talk) 03:38, March 7, 2024 (EST)
