'''Treasures''' ({{j|オタカラ|Otakara}}) are collectable items found in several games in the ''Pikmin'' series. They are the primary collectible in {{p2}}, {{p4}}, and {{hp}}. These objects are usually day-to-day items used by real world humans, but to the alien explorers of the ''Pikmin'' series, they seem like valuable treasures. The concept of a treasure also exists in {{p3}}, but only in [[Mission Mode]], where [[fruit]]s and other valuable collectibles are all referred to as "treasure".

==In ''Pikmin 2''==

In {{p2}}, each treasure is worth a certain amount of [[Poko]]s, much more than [[enemy]] corpses. As such, collecting them is important to repaying [[Hocotate Freight]]'s debt. Because they are so important, treasures [[Area|above ground]] can be commonly found behind some challenge that must be overcome in order to collect it. [[Cave|Underground]] treasures are usually easier to reach, but because of the [[cave]]s' cramped nature, it might be hard to retrieve some treasures without first killing [[enemies]] that are in the way. A cave must first be exited successfully before the Poko amount of the collected treasures within is counted and they are considered "collected".

Some treasures have special properties in that they add a new ability to the player's arsenal. These belong to the [[Exploration Kit]], and are normally found inside [[boss]]es.

In total, there are 201 treasures to collect, with some returning in ''Pikmin 4'' or as [[fruits]] in {{p3}}. Each type of treasure is only found once in the game. Treasures are normally objects found in the real world, but given ridiculous names and descriptions by the clueless [[Captain Olimar]] and [[Hocotate ship|his ship]]. In the GameCube and ''New Play Control!'' versions, some treasures change in appearance, name, value or index number between [[Region|regional version]]s of the game, while in the Nintendo Switch version, treasures are the same in all regions. There are a total of {{pokos|26,985}} worth in treasures in the US version and Nintendo Switch version, {{pokos|26,885}} in the European version, and {{pokos|26,181}} in the Japanese version.

In both above-ground areas and caves, most treasures are out in the open, but they can also be found inside of enemies or [[buried]] in the ground. Whether a treasure is buried or not depends on the treasure itself, meaning that if the same buried treasure appears in a different game mode or the game files are changed to make it appear elsewhere, then those appearances will be underground as well.

Every time a treasure is collected, a cutscene plays, as explained [[Cutscene#Pikmin 2|here]].

==In ''Pikmin 4''==

Treasures are the main type of collectible item in {{p4}}. Each treasure is worth some amount of [[Sparklium]] when collected, and collecting enough Sparklium can power up the [[S.S. Shepherd]] and unlock the next area. Treasures in this game have sparkle effects around them. There can be multiple of a single type of treasure, unlike in ''Pikmin 2'' and ''Hey! Pikmin'', where each treasure is always a single item. When collected, a simple notification appears on-screen saying "New treasure collected!", with the icon of the corresponding treasure appearing above it and some dots below indicating where the treasure fits in its [[series]]. In this game, when a treasure is being carried, it rotates as the Pikmin change direction in their path. Collected treasures can be viewed in the [[Treasure Catalog]].

==In ''Hey! Pikmin''==

In {{hp}}, treasures help refuel the [[S.S. Dolphin II]]'s [[Sparklium]] supply. Although it is possible to collect Sparklium from [[Sparklium|seed]]s, treasures are the main source of Sparklium since they are worth much more. Each [[area]] has some number of treasures, usually 3, and some areas are dedicated exclusively to the collection of a special treasure. To collect one, Captain Olimar must touch it, so if he cannot reach one, the Pikmin will have to [[carry]] it to him instead. Treasures are normally found out in the open, but can be inside certain [[Enemy|enemies]] as well. The most valuable treasures are found in [[boss]]es at the end of each sector.

Each game with treasures has a [[menu]] where collected treasures are listed. ''Pikmin 2'' has the Treasure Hoard, which lets the player see a treasure's value in [[Poko]]s and its [[weight]], read [[Olimar]]'s notes and [[Hocotate ship|the ship]]'s sales pitch, and see a dynamic view around the treasure using a free [[camera]] mode. ''Pikmin 4'' has the Treasure Catalog, which lets the player see various statistics about the treasure, read notes from [[Schnauz]], Olimar, and [[Louie]], and view the treasure using a free camera mode. ''Hey! Pikmin''{{'s}} logs contain a Treasure Log, which lets the player see a treasure's value in [[Sparklium]], read Olimar's notes, and view the treasure using a free camera mode.

==Treasure Gauge==

The Treasure Gauge is an [[Exploration Kit]] upgrade in ''Pikmin 2'' and a [[gear]] item in ''Pikmin 4''. It adds an element to the [[HUD]] and a sound effect that indicate how close the player is to a treasure, or whether there are no remaining treasures in an area or sublevel.

==Dynamic weights==

There is a mechanic in ''Pikmin 2'' that can change the weight of some treasures inside strong enemies. Specifically, this applies to treasures released by a boss on the last floor of a cave in story mode. If after defeating the beast, the player does not have enough Pikmin to carry the treasure, its weight will decrease to match the number of Pikmin, to a minimum of 1. Each [[Purple Pikmin]] counts as 1, despite having the carrying strength of 10.

This mechanic prevents the scenario where the player fights against a tough enemy until the end, but can't claim the reward because they are short on Pikmin. The change happens when the treasure pops out of the beast, which means that this feature can be triggered either if the player brings too few Pikmin with them to the sublevel, or if too many Pikmin die in battle. It also means that if the player loses Pikmin after the battle, they risk being unable to carry the reward back.

Additionally, while not an example of dynamic weight per se, the [[Golden Vaulting Table]] in ''Pikmin 4'' has its weight reduced when playing on Fierce difficulty. It normally weighs 1000 units, requiring 100 [[Purple Pikmin]] to carry, but since Fierce limits the player to only 60 Pikmin in the field, the Golden Vaulting Table instead weighs 600 units on that difficulty setting.

==Shizakipiki Soda==

The very first treasure that is used to repay the debt in ''Pikmin 2'' is not acknowledged in-game, and is only seen in the opening [[cutscene]]. It is a bottle cap that Olimar brings in his hand as a souvenir to his son. When he drops it after hearing the debt's total amount, the [[Hocotate ship]] beams it up and knocks down {{pokos|100}} from the debt total, turning it into a round {{pokos|10000}}. It is a small white bottle cap, smaller than collectible ones seen in-game, and is slightly bent. Although very hard to see, due to the way it faces from the camera, the face is cyan, has a red border with the white words "SHIZAKIPIKI SODA" written twice, and has a red star in the center. This is a fictional brand, with "piki" being [[Pikmin family#Naming|short for Pikmin]].
